Britney Spear's 'Diagnosis'?

He passed “scumbag” when he controlled her ability to reproduce.

I’ve seen Britney in the news recently. It’s beginning to remind me of the craziness from 2007. Inexplicably posting nudes on Instagram, publicly blasting her sister, mother and father.

I can’t help but wonder about the new husband. Is he feeding the paranoia?

She hasn’t shaved her head. Hopefully she’ll seek professional help before too many bad people get their hooks into her.

I hope the situation doesn’t get this bad again.

I feel bad for her 2 kids. They’re teens now and are probably very conflicted with the family drama.

She has just as much right as anyone else to piss her money away.

Not if the cause for her doing so is a serious psychiatric disorder which affects her ability to judge periodically. However much that sucks for her. AFAIK that was the reason for the conservatorship in the first place. In that sense it’s better to be stupid than insane.

Why is she being treated differently than anyone else? Could the answer be that she has money and someone wants it? Let’s throw in that she’s a woman. Look at Robert Downey Jr, who arguably made an even bigger ass of himself and did not end up in a conservatorship.

I follow her on Instagram. She’s incredibly vapid. It’s nearly always videos of her bouncing from one foot to the other while modeling some dress or bathing suit. Or she’s doing some weird interpretive dance thing, or a workout montage. There are occasional pics where she’s naked, but she uses emojis to cover up anything that would mark it as actual nudity. There have been some screeds about her family, or proclamations of her independence, but mostly it’s just her vacationing or in her house - as I recall, the nudity pics with the smiley faces over her nipples was while in a hot tub somewhere.

Best as I can tell, she seems to be retired, and not really doing anything but taking it easy. I wish I had it so well, but she’s busted her ass, and earned millions. I doubt she needs to work anymore unless she wants to.

Many celebrities will post “nudes” on Instagram. Celebrities and other influencers make money off of each post. It takes less effort than dancing and singing, too. Some less well known celebrities do that, some more well known; of course the latter get paid more. I don’t see why she should be judged differently from, say, the Kardashians (who admittedly are other seemingly vapid celebrities).

Her sister has been attacking her, and her father tried to control her reproduction. Britney Spears is defending herself against her sister’s charges (apparently in public relations you never let a charge go unanswered, but she really should have a publicist handle that), and she’s understandably angry at her father. I don’t know the best way to deal with this kind of situation since I’ve never been there. Perhaps there’s a more mature way to handle it. But then we’re dealing with someone who is uneducated, needs to staff up, and isn’t entirely mentally well. I see no indication that she’s being paranoid: her sister just released a book crapping all over her.

I don’t recall reading about attacks on her mother. There may be some attacks, and I don’t know if they’re valid or not. I don’t follow Britney Spears that closely.

People with mental issues have enough problems. I wish the news would just leave Britney alone. Ignore her odd posts and maybe that would help her settle down.

I don’t follow her social media. It’s impossible to avoid seeing the article titles on the news sites. I never bother reading them.

I think that plays a larger role than we care to admit, yes. This is also patriarchy at work.

Yeah, nobody’s talking about putting Kanye West into a conservatorship, and he’s acting way more unhinged than Brittney was when her dad took over her life.

She’s getting a (>$15M) cash infusion – presumably, one D(ear) O(ld) D(ad) can’t bite into:

Amanda Bynes’ conservatorship terminated after nearly 9 years - CBS News

Perhaps there’s a change in the air.

The way Bynes’ lawyer spoke, it sounds like this was a more consensual/collaborative arrangement, though that could just be putting a gloss on things after the fact. I guess I had heard something about Bynes being conserved also, but I don’t know much about it.

If I have a conservator, what does that even mean? I get that in Ms. Spears’ case it meant that her conservator handled her money, but what else? Like, would I need my conservator’s permission to sign a lease on an apartment? If my conservator wanted me in church every Sunday morning, would I have to go?

At the very least, they are describing it as though her parents were working with her to rebuild her independence. Like you, I don’t know if that is entirely accurate but I think it’s how conservatorship should work for people with the potential to regain control of their lives.

Britney is pregnant with her third child! Glad she got that IUD removed after her conservatorship ended.

Not that easy to conceive at 40. Good for her.

Bumping for to add a link to a comprehensive history of Jamie Spears, Ms. Spears’s father and conservator, on Vulture. One might hope it would shed some light on whether the conservatorship was reasonable and whether Mr. Spears abused his authority. It doesn’t particularly, but it reads like a pulpy Southern Gothic novel that some might enjoy.
