I used to live in Scotland, and we used to say minging meaning disgusting or horrible (“do you like my new shoes?” “Naw, thur _minging_”, and to ming meant to smell bad … “that aftershave _mings_” I noticed that **manky** seems to be common to both Scotland and Ireland with the same meaning (filthy - as in “that dog’s manky!” [dog having rolled in cow shite]) ---
