Definition of adultery: “voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse.” For it to be labeled adultery, at least one of the people has to be married, and as I understand it, the adulterer is the married person. If the OP isn’t married, s/he is a fornicator.
that’s such a great word ‘forn-i-ca-tor’. It’s got a crazy bible-bashing preacher air about it.
Kind of wish I used it for a board name now … The Fornicator!
No kidding. “Adultery” doesn’t even sound bad. It just sounds boring. But FORNICATION! Now there’s a sin to really get into!
Here’s what I don’t get. The murder takes place in the cabin on the cliff above the beach where Danny’s body was found. The killer decides to move Danny’s body to the beach. Why?
He puts Danny’s body in the trunk, and instead of driving 200 yards to the beach, he drives all the way to the other side of town, steals a boat, and uses the boat to bring the body back to basically where he started. Why?
I don’t think there was any easy way down to the beach from the cabin.
BTW, I wondered if the murderer considered dumping the body over the side of the boat. If he weighed it down, it might never have been found. (Of course then it’s one of those horrible situations with a missing kid. It’s almost easier if there’s a body.)
Joe wanted the body to be found. He was a parent and had some empathy, I think.
One of the aforementioned deleted scenes explains how the murderer got the keys to the cabin. Maybe the director should have included it after all.
As we saw that in the opening credits, the beach hut was at the top of cliffs. There wouldn’t be any direct way down because chalk is unstable.
Iirc, the cut scene showed the keys to the hut were left under a pebble - not uncommon, a lot of people would also know the location.
Empathy, a family friend - even a medic by profession. And, in his own mind, a decent bloke.
Looked to me like you just have to drive down the road. But I could be wrong.
Even if I am wrong, what’s the big deal about the beach? Why not leave the body in the hut, or in a back alley somewhere, or where the boats are tied up, or in any of a hundred other places?
I just think the boat theft/trip was unnecessary and inexplicable.
He was obviously panicked. I doubt he planned anything.
I can’t remember if there was a particular reason but, as a general proposition, from the killers pov it obv. helps if you remove the body from the murder scene.
I wondered why he didn’t just throw the body off the cliff, giving the impression that Danny accidentally feel in the dark.
He did strangle him! Even our friends who spend six weeks in that bloody tent might have worked that out.
Which reminds me … that was odd wasn’t it; the forensics guy asking Ellie out …
I think that’s another hint at the ending. The forensics guy just wants to get laid, nevermind the woman is married. Just like Hardy’s wife was having an affair, Mark was having an affair, Joe was having an affair… it’s another hint that Ellie is somewhat of a paragon while everything around her is falling apart.
You might be right. For a fleeting moment I did think Alec put him up to it - to test the marriage, as it were. Call me cold-hearted …
mmm, Alec doesn’t trust anyone and thinks anyone could do it, but I don’t think he wants to break up any marriages. His own marriage breaking up ruined him, I don’t get the impression he’d wish that on his own worst enemy.
The thing for Ellie is that she has this wonderful picture of her seaside town, which gets torn down more and more as the show goes on. Alec already hates everything, the collapse of normality for Ellie is just Tuesday for Alec.
Dang! <head slap> I knew I forgot something… Still, he could just as well have thrown the body off the cliff as go through all the trouble with the boat, etc.
As someone pointed out upthread, Joe Miller regretted killing Danny and he’s a father too, so I can’t imagine him just throwing the body off the cliffs.
BTW, I think that he was suppressing urges to do things to Tom and snapped when Danny brought that up.
You’re right, of course. He did love Danny. I’m nuts.
