It’s an identity, not a specific person (Which would explain all of the different Bonds in the same universe). Suppose Brosnan-Bond retires, and the best agent waiting in the wings is a woman? (Or black, that would seamlessly allow Denzel (or whoever) to take the job) It would actually be easy to write the scene, a 2 minute sequence in M’s office where the new Bond is crowned would do it, and just think of the options that would open up for a somewhat formulaic (Alright, totally formulaic) franchise. ---

I’ve always liked that idea myself, and thought that the ultimate Bond movie would one where the current Bond went up against one of the previous Bonds who’d decided to become a super-villian for whatever reason. ---

Wasn’t that the plot for _Goldeneye_, though? (But then again, plots fo 007 have been recycled several times already.) I’m of the “Bond as a Title” idea, too, but _my_ ultimate pipe dream would have all the actors (or at least the ones that haven’t kicked the bucket) who’ve played Bond show up in a movie together. The result is a scene that goes something like this… PIERCE BROSNAN approaches the bar. The voluptuous female bartender gives Pierce a once-over and cuts in before he can say anything. BARTENDER (bored): Let me guess. Vodka martini, shaken not stirred? PIERCE (raises an eyebrow): Why, yes. (leans forward) You must be psychic. BARTENDER (bored): Not really. The last five guys who came in here dressed exactly like you and ordered the same thing. 😃 ---
