I’ll watch, depending on the weather. If it snows, I’ll go actually ski instead of watching it.
Another curling fan here! I think I want to get a stone just because there is something beautiful about them. Outside at the moment we have the deepest snow that we’ve had in ten years in Nashville. I think it’s only about 8 inches. I literally haven’t seen a car moving since last Thursday!
My favorite moment in sports was when the USA hockey team beat the Soviet Union and then went on to win the gold. It was a total upset – the equivalent of a high school team playing against and beating a professional hockey team. I’ve never seen anything like it. That’b been about 30 years and I still get chills.
My other favorite moment was Torvill and Dean ice dancing to Ravel’s Bolero in Sarajevo in 1984 before the war there. They received 9 perfect scores of 10.0 on artistic interpretation from the judges.
If you haven’t seen it, I think that it is truly breathtaking. Following it all the way to the end until she becomes the matador’s cape. It is about six minutes.
You may think that this is sentimental, but this particular performance is important in another way. It is comforting to know that something so perfectly beautiful once occured on that very spot. The war came. The ice stadium is gone and is now a cemetery for the war dead.
Yes, there is–the beautiful sheen of polished granite. Be forewarned, though, that they weigh 42 pounds. For a facsimile, may I suggest the curling rock ice bucket (13th item)? I have one on my coffee table.
I’m in the process of organizing my Olympics Curling Party. We’ll do grid sheets like for the Super Bowl, with prizes for each end and Red+1, Yellow+2 et cetera. It’ll be fun!
