Bruce Willis has aphasia and is indeed leaving acting

Long term care for someone physical healthy (I assume he is) but mentally incompetent and getting worse is incredibly expensive. While some of those Hollywood stars earned enormous amounts during their careers not all of them held onto the money very well. Since I don’t know the finances of the Willis family I can’t rule out the possibility that paying for his care wasn’t a concern on his mind.

Now we know. It is dementia like the rumors indicated.

There’s more to work than money, especially creative/artistic/performance work. I have a friend who is still working full time at 74 years of age. I asked about it, and he said that he loves the work and thus wants to do it, and it keeps him active and useful. To him, “retiring” and sitting back at home is tantamount to entering the “Final Act” of his life.

I also want to point out that the movie moguls knew what they were doing. Just the name of Bruce Willis, limited though he was in his final year or two, was going to increase viewership significantly and more than make back the money they were paying him. Believe me, they weren’t being duped or robbed in any way.

A friend of mine’s dad went through temporal lobe dementia. It was hell. He was just gone by the end, unable to speak or think. It was the closest thing to a zombie I’ve seen. He was dead, but his body didn’t get the message. He was an engineer who loved fishing and the outdoors. Towards the end he could barely shuffle through the house.

I’m not gonna begrudge Willis an end of career cash grab.

Or, for that matter, just wanting to keep doing something he loved, for as long as we was able, before he’s robbed of the ability to do so.

Yeah, that too, even if the movies weren’t very good.
