Brujaja's May Weird Plant Feud [Closed]

Go, butternut!! Woot! I am so impressed with how well-informed we all are about plants.

Excellent question, Silver Tyger Girl! I started to answer you “no”; then I realized that, since squash are “cucurbita”, “cucumber” might indeed live in their house.

So I went to Wiki and found the following:

"Squashes generally refer to four species of the genus Cucurbita native to the New World, also called marrows depending on variety or the nationality of the speaker.

Species:
C. maxima - hubbard squash, buttercup squash
C. mixta - cushaw squash
C. moschata - butternut squash
C. pepo - most pumpkins, acorn squash,
summer squash, zucchini"

So, no, they’re not squashes technically, but they certainly live next door.

garygnu: Well, you’re right. What I was thinking was those plants where the “blossoms” are very obviously the same exact leaves as the rest of the plant, minus the chlorophyll so that they are red – like bougainvilla, pointsettia etc. I could certainly have worded it better.

Or, I can claim that it was a “trick question”. Yes, that’s it! A trick question!

BRB…

The answers:

I gave Harmonious Discord a break due to brainfart - I’m sure he didn’t mean to say “buttercup” squash. I also combined yellow and summer squash into the same answer, even though all summer squashes are not yellow squashes…

That was fun. I’ve never played in one of these before.

I’m penultimate! w00t!

Suggestion for next round’'s theme: all trick questions.

Oh, rats! I’m too late. sob

Bugger too late

I just got in; had to go out right around the time this was done. (Murphy’s Law.)

WOOOT!!! Tied for second! And the weird thing was, I was absolutely sure I would show poorly in this Feud because I thought my answers were weird…who knew that so many other people eat dandelion? Incidentally, they were brought to America as a vegetable by European settlers. If you want them off your lawn, start eating them…they will make themselves scarce.

Dolores Reborn: Thank you very much for scoring this one, once again! I am so grateful for your taking the trouble to help. And, I may be showing up in Houston next spring for asparagus!

Everybody, thank you also for playing. Some of my ignorance was fought thanks to you – I had never heard of Virginia Creeper, and I never knew cucumber lived next door to squash!
