Now you’ve tried to Pit someone, and it hasn’t quite worked out the way you hoped, has it? As far as other posters believing “they’ve done something special and clever,” there is a certain satisfaction to be had in carrying out the war on ignorance. More worthy opponents would make it even more satisfying, of course. And we all have some sadness about it, since we have been unable to stamp out the kind of ignorance you keep spouting. That really is a disappointment. But as you seem to be impervious to reason, I suppose there’s not much more any of us can do. ---

It’s funny. In real life, I know a lot of people who believe in psychic powers, the supernatural, and New Ageism in general. And they’re all really cool people. Decent, friendly, respectful, and intelligent, every single one of them. I’m talking about some of my closest, oldest, dearest friends, here. And yet, online, the only people I ever see who defend this stuff are vengeful, deceptive, duplicitous, hypocritical morons. What’s with that? ---

Whenever I get into arguments IRL with people about the supernatrural it’s never as acrimonious as political debates, but online it’s just as bad if not worse. One of the sweetest, intelligent and empathic (in the non-psychic sense 🙂 ) women I’ve ever met fully accepted the reality of modern medicine(while rejecting the modern medical philosophy) and practiced Reiki. I suspect such people frequent very different websites and join different online conversations in general. ---

Dear me. I’ve been enjoying my life away from the acrimonious battles of this board. Been visiting and posting elsewhere. But it’s good to take a break from all that! You poor people won’t be able to do a unanimous thump-thump on **SnakeSpirit** , as I have come to support him at this juncture. He is a man of sense, humor, experience, and, above all, _life_. It is one thing for any of you to disagree with him on this or that–so what, you have a difference of opinion. But once you trudge into the mud and actively _disdain_ this noble person, then you are demonstrating a sad feature of human nature: to wit, you are so bent on taking a side and blasting everyone else you perceive to be on the other, that you readily contemn a person of the best qualities. Ah, such foolish, fucked-up children! But I will chime in with the majority and say, “Snake, what were you thinking? A gang-up was inevitable. The whole kindergarten class is _bound_ to be _pist_ if you honestly critique their finger paintings!” Let these pious men return to their rosaries: “Hail Susan Blackmore, full of skepticism…” “Our Randi, who art a skeptic…” How dare you disturb their prayers, **SnakeSpirit**!
