Even worse than “Your Holiness” I think is “Father.” I already have a father. Maybe this is apropos, but I am just now picturing Bush chastising one of his aides in the manner of Charlie Brown’s teacher. “Buah buah bubuah buah buaaaah.” “Yes, Mr. President.” “Buah bubuah buahah buah?” “No. Mr. President.” “Buah buaaaah buahbuah bubuah buah.” “I apologize, Mr. President. It won’t happen again.” ---

[/QUOTE] As far as I can tell, she’s not taking anybody else’s title, in which the rules would apply. She’s making up one of her own, which has no previous protocol or tradition attached. If **Chimera** wanted me to address her as “your Majesty”–seriously, not as a joke–I’d go :dubious: at the very least, but I don’t have the same problem with “your Amazing Magnificence”. ---

Neither sprang fully formed at the Big Bang. There are these things called History and Reality that you might want to consult before getting pissy over things that are unfamiliar to you. Errr… I don’t think it was particular wrong, guys. You don’t have to append “Your Holiness” to every single sentence you say to the Pope even if you are Catholic. :rolleyes: ---

I believe that the protocol of using the title is usually for introductions…“pleased to meet you, Your Holiness,” for example. After that, you can use a respectful “sir” or “ma’am” when answering questions. ---
