Bubble tea quiz

Just like the way I swim…

oO Naturel Oo

Ohhhh I never made the ‘boba’ -> ‘bubble’ connection before. Nice.

I have been nothing if not open-minded about this bubble-tea thing. I have tried it up and down, from all the four corners of this city, all different flavors, at all times of day. It didn’t work. It NEVER worked. All it’s done for me is ruined my appetite and made a few paychecks disappear.

I do not like bubble tea.

Why? Food never grosses me out. I LOVE food! All kinds of food - I’ve eaten dog, silkworm larvae, lard, raw beef. I’ve had pine-flavored soft drinks. None of it has roused the 'ol gag reflex as much as this yucky trendy little drink.

I’m sorry, people. But EWW.

Hey Flam
How do you ask for milk-free bubble tea? Are the lactose free teas in special categories?
or, just say “no milk, please”?

Is it the pearls you don’t like? You can always ask for bubble tea without them, you know. I admit swallowing them (or the idea of swallowing them) can be a bit daunting, but you could also ask for coconut jelly or something else too.

By the way, is dog really as tender as my brother’s friend Ty says it is?

Generally, all you have to do is say: “no milk, please.”

Green apple.

“Congratulations, you grouch. Okay, so perhaps ‘grouch’ is a bit of a strong term. Perhaps the words intense, moody, and sour are more to your liking. Either way, it’s hard to find to find someone who really likes you, but there are people in this world who do appreciate you for your tangy ‘kick’.”

No One Likes Me,
No One Likes Me,
No One Likes Me,
I Don’t Care…

Yes, it is the pearls. I just don’t see the value of a bubble-less bubble tea. If I wanted that, I could just buy it at a cheaper, less trendy place. Also, I’m kind of being stubborn about this. There is something about this particular drink that makes people love it and I can’t stop until I find out what it is!

It’s tender in that overcooked, stringy kind of way. It reminds me of excellent mutton gone slightly “vintage”.

Fun fact: Dog meat has a naturally repugnant smell that is often disguised by assorted herbs and powders. Hiding the smell of dog meat is a closely guarded secret of Korean restaurants that specialize in the dish. It’s a difficult thing to do, and most people would be wise to get their dog cooked at a reputable place.

Mine was prepared by my Mother-in-Law. :dubious:

There is a place near me that has jellied lychee chunks that you can request instead of tapioca pearls. Very yummy!

Expecting some sort of overly carbonated tea drink, imagine my HORROR when I discovered what it was.

Here I was, enjoying the thought of bubble strawberry flavored tea, when I realize the bubbles are “pearls” I GAG!!!

I have had it before, Grass flavor or something like that. About a year ago I had my curiosity piqued by my friends fiance whilst in Sacramento. She liked them, and I always like trying new stuff. So I send her off to order me one up(being a big white dude surrounded by remarkably shorter Vietnamese people)
Holy crap was it disgusting. I get physically sick when I see or smell the stuff.

Please, Eat it all. I beg of you.

Yeah, I always order it with the pearls myself. Of course, you could always ask for coconut jelly or coffee jelly instead of the pearls.

Hmm… thanks for the info. I still don’t think I’ll be eating it anytime soon, but that’s good to know… sort of.

Well, Ty didn’t have his prepared by his mother-in-law. He’s not old enough yet to have a mother-in-law. (thank goodness!)

He was on a missions trip to China a couple of years ago, and had some. That’s all I know about it.

Thanks for the info on dog meat, by the way. Didn’t mean to sound all peremptory and stuff.

Actually, I was wrong on that one. They do have durian bubble tea here… or at least they do at the Pho restaurant on Kingsway. I was at lunch with my brother, grandma, and friend Eric… and just happened to notice it on the menu. Needless to say, we didn’t order that.

Oh my goodness… I have no idea how it did that. It wasn’t redsponding last night, so I thought I’d try it again today. Sorry.

I’m a honeydew tew.

I see you found the thread EddyTeddyFreddy was taling about earlier, Abby. Good stuff!

And no, the drink isn’t dangerous. It may take some getting used to, but dangerous is not one of the words I’d use to describe it.
