Looking up at the beer case tonight, I saw this abomination.

Miller saw fit to appeal to the Hispanic market with Miller Chill, which is delicious. Anheuser-Busch went the “WTF!?” route and produced Budweiser+Clamato, with chili and salt.

I almost bought it, just to taste it, but figured it a waste of money. They had both Bud and Bud light versions. Is this something Canadians would enjoy? I hear they drink Clamato like orange juice in the mornings.

You have absolutely got to be kidding me. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

We have tons of Mexicans here and I don’t think any of them would be so dumb as to buy that.

BLECH!

Now Bud and plain tomato juice I can see. Red beer is quite popular in some areas of the Midwest. But Clamato juice? :eek:

I see it far and wide here in Chicagoland. It’s often individual oilcans in displays suction cupped to the 'fridge door glass. They call it ‘Chelado’ style. I really oughta try it sometime.

Maybe it’s Bud’s attempt to re-imagine the Montana Mary? Perhaps they could call it it the _Mollusk_ Mary…

Yes, dear ones. It’s a [beverage](http://ugonnaeatthat.wordpress.com/2006/09/19/red-eye-drink-of-champions/) consumed in Canada\*, and they’ve put [Red Eye](http://www.mottsclamato.com/recipes.php?title=&recipeid=38) into a bottle. You can get [Caesars](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_%28cocktail%29) in bottles now too. That I can understand. But is pouring some beer into a glass of Clamato so damn tricky that it has to be contracted to the Bud people?

\*not by me,but I’ve seen lots of burly dudes drinking it in pubs.

Aah c’mon guys! Don’t tell me you think this is the worst? I guess you missed the world’s worst cocktails thread:

> **[World's Worst Cocktails](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=410739)**
>
> The Mummy 3 oz Orange Pedialyte 1 oz Sambuca Dash of bitters Cinammon stick Smidge of nutmeg Combine the Pedialyte, Sambuca, and bitters in coffee mug. Stir. Microwave for 20 sec. on high. Add cinammon stick and nutmeg.

Regarding this thread what you have in the OP is a variation of the Poor Man’s Bloody Mary:

[http://www.drinksmixer.com/drinko12n352.html](http://www.drinksmixer.com/drinko12n352.html)

> 1 splash Worcestershire sauce

> 1 pinch peppers
>
> Build over ice cubes in a large old-fashioned or lowball glass. Add beer last.

With Clamato it is called a Mexican Chabela.

Yummy!! 😛😉

As mentioned, beer and clamato is sufficiently popular in Canada (at least where I live) that one can order the concoction without anyone batting an eye. It’s called a “Clam High”. And you know what? it’s not so bad. Not great, but not revolting. But, I happen to think clamato is freaking delicious.

The michelada, as I was taught it was, is probably the very best summer drink ever. Ever ever.

It’s very much as GIGObuster said. You take a glass, fill it with ice, then halfway with clamato. Then you put in worchestershire, lime juice, Tapatio, and top with a nice Mexican beer like Tecate. Ooooh lord it’s so good. Makes the summers pass easy.

Using Bud Light, however, is grounds for capital punishment in Mexico and at least two southwestern US states.

An alternate way to kill the summer: the marimba. Line up four shot glasses. 1 = tequila; 2 = lime juice; 3 = clamato; 4 = beer (Tecate). It’s really only one shot, but it’s a great party drink, since everyone feels like they’re getting totally blasted, but it’s mostly psychological. Mmm…now I can’t wait for summer…

Tell me Clamato is not literally clam juice… :eek: I’m picturing the salty slimey water that sits in an open clam shell being poured into a can. Like a raw oyster.

But at least it’s not Mountain Dew!

</div>

Clamato = [Clam + Tomato!](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clamato)

I have a billboard for this concoction right near my apartment. The thing that caught my attention was not the mixture of Bud Light and Clamato, but that Clamato is everywhere where I live. Coming from Louisiana, Clamato was something I had seen once or twice but thought of as a niche product. At the grocery store down the road, however, they somehow have at least a dozen varieties of the clam/tomato hybrid - more than the brands and types of regular tomato juice.

Me, I like beer with potato chips. Chips on the side, that is.

The last time I was at my local Mexican restaurant, I was given one of these…things…by the waiter.

I tried to drink it…I really did. I made it about half-way through the can. Yes, the can. It’s a lot like V8, in my opinion. I never really got any of the beer taste, but I couldn’t stomach it. I honestly think if someone likes V8, they might dig it.
