> Thanks to Damuri, I no longer have a straw man to beat. He (she?) has changed my mind on all of this. Democrats, without exception, are kind-hearted, intelligent folks who only want the best for me, while Republicans (again, without exception) are heartless, mindless assholes whose sole purpose is to scare people and ruin the country. How could I have been so small-minded as not to see that one side is always right while the other is always wrong?

Do you own a straw man factory or something?

Do you disagree that the Democrats are trying a balanced approach while the Republicans don’t want to do anything but cut spending and are being disingenuous?

It sounds like your sacred cows were just attacked and you’re lashing out.

It’s been pointed out that Democrats are proposing a 2/1 trade-off with spending cuts/revenues.

It’s been pointed out that Republicans are saying no new taxes and refusing to negotiate.

While cites haven’t been given, it’s been pointed out that lowering taxes generally does not increase revenue. We could dig up the cites if you want, we use them a lot around here.

It’s been pointed out that except for entitlements and military, the rest is pretty much peanuts. Not sure if this was cited or not.

What exactly are you rebelling against?

> That’s hardly fair to **Damuri**. He has clearly not been trumpeting a blindly partisan position, and has not even come close to asserting what you claim here. He has merely pointed out, with cites, the position taken by the Republican Party as stated by its leadership and as demonstrated by its actions, and has contrasted that with the position taken by the Democratic Party as stated by its leadership.

**Damuri** did offer some reasoned analysis, but there was plenty of pur opinion sprinkled throughout:

> Good luck with that one after the Republicans poisoned the well on medicare during the health care debate.

> Its the Democrats that wnt a balanced approach and the Republicans are once again fooling you because you are too busy to keep up with the facts. They count on the fact that you are too busy to know the facts in order to take advantage of your visceral reactions to their dog whistle politics.

I don’t mind someone demonizing the opponent, as long as they’re honest about doing it. **CannyDan** seems to be saying that I should accept these premises as gospel truth because they are (subjectively) contrasting the opposing views.

I threw a little sarcasm at **Damuri** - I hardly think it was any less fair than his/her assertions that I am ignorant, uniformed, and have been tricked.

I have some trouble seeing how you got from here

As for this:

I’m not sure what “premises” you mean. If you think accurately reporting the positions taken by the GOP leadership is “demonizing”, I suggest you blame the GOP leadership. If you are referring to **Damuri** ’s assertions about financial strategies and their consequences, I’ll note that one side brings cites and the other side counters with ideology and loud repetition.

As for

I will try to remember your definition of sarcasm when I next revise my personal dictionary.

Good question. It _ **IS** _ kinda obvious…
