It could also have something to do with Budweiser being a sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee, but it can’t call itself the “official beer of the Olympics,” so it does the next best thing; “If you’re not drinking an America, then you’re rooting for the other guys.” ---

I’m on board with one condition: They must use “America, Fuck Yeah!” from South Park on their TV/Radio advertising. And by “on board” I mean that I will laugh with the ads, and still not buy Budweiser. ---

I honestly don’t understand this at all. Americans like America, but they like it as a country. They don’t know of a beer called “America.” You don’t see Coke calling their cola “America” or Ford renaming the F-150 the “Ford America.” There’s a reason for that; people know those brand names and like buying them. If it worked, there’s be a product called “America” in virtually every type of consumer product there was - soda, beer, cars, televisions, T-shirts, hamburgers, shoes, everything. And in Canada there’s be “Canada” brand everything, and so on and so forth. ---

The beer will still be recognizable by the familiar script and other adornments on the can; Budweiser will undoubtedly have a huge advertising blitz to make sure people know what it is. And for the stereotypical Bud drinker in their American flag tshirt on their way to the monster truck jam, what are they going to choose as they stand in front of beer display? Some golden-colored can, or the red white and blue one that says 'Merica on it? (What, you chose Miller? Why do you hate America, you commie Muslim?) It’s like the ubiquitous flag pin on politicians - when the nativists are watching, you can’t afford to choose anything else. ---

Interesting sales campaign. The packaging is still very clearly Budweiser that everyone knows. The name change shouldn’t confuse anybody. Its whats inside the bottle that counts. 😃 Bud and Michelob have served me well over the years. ---

Since they are doing this through the presidential election it’s a marketing move for the presidential debates drinking game. Any time a candidate says “America” you have to chug an “America”. ---
