Canadians drink the same beers as Americans and should just accept that fact. Canadian beer is not and has never been better. The most popular beers in Canada by sales are Bud, Bud Light, Molson Canadian, Blue, and Coors Light, and if you gave 100 Canadians a double blinded taste test challenging them to taste the difference between Bud and Canadian they’d all fail. ---

The main thing stopping everyone from doing it is that the name can’t be trademarked. So there’s legally nothing to stop Coors or Miller from naming their beer America too. But it would be dumb, because now there truly is no brand distinction. I think it could work once in Budweiser’s case, but you might be right that it does nothing but confuse consumers. I have faith in the blind nativism of Bud drinkers to snap up a case of America, but stupidity (“huh? what’s this crap? where the hell did my Bud go?”) is a strong competitor. ---

If anything, they may sell more because people who don’t care about beer but need to buy a couple cases for their July 4th party or whatever will think it is cute/funny to buy “America” instead of whatever else they might grab.
