But, then, Xander still hates Spike, and the jury is still out on whether Spike’s attitude toward Xander has changed.

I’m afraid that while we in the audience know that Xander isn’t privy to that information.
And because it hasn’t been mentioned yet, my favorite funny moment in “Him” was Xander jokingly saying that he didn’t want Buffy to throw out her old cheerleading outfit.

I’m a bit confused, here. Which information isn’t Xander privy to- that Drusilla rescued him from Angel and tried to change him (hard to believe, since he was right there being rescued), that he still hates Spike (also hard to believe he doesn’t know that), that we don’t know if Spike still hates him (like he’d care anyway), or that I was hoping that he’d tell Spike about the Drusilla incident (hey, I was yelling at the screen, maybe Xander needs to get his hearing checked?)

You’re right. I had my Buffy-verse confused, or as Daffy Duck would put it, “Aha, pronoun trouble.”

Pundit-Lisa and you are referring to the time in “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” when Dru rescued Xander from Angel. From the original context of the Pundit-Lisa’s post, I thought she was referring to Spike being sired originally, which was of course well before Xander was born. My mistake.

Well, I’m 41 and hanging with the same buddies I did when I was 19-20. Not the same bar, though, 'cause it isn’t there anymore, but you may call me pathetic if you want to 😃

Now, the timeframe here is that the scoobies are all 21. Hardly a group of old pathetic guys, hangin in the High School bar. If you remember Anya trying to order a beer, and getting asked for an ID, it’s well established that The Bronze is licensed. Being the only bar, with live music and alcohol in Sunnydale, I find it perfectly reasonable that a group of 21 year olds hang out there.

Worst. Episode. Ever.

Well, so far this season…

I cannot stand it when we are expected to believe that characters do totally bizarre (and illegal) things, in broad daylight, and nobody notices. Yeah, the contest was great (how much money did Anya get?), but seeing Buffy making out with the student, at SCHOOL, in an EMPTY CLASSROOM, with an UNLOCKED DOOR with a WINDOW that reveals the whole sorry scene - and we are to accept that not a single person noticed?

Sorry. Joss, you must’ve had a bad case of writers block when you (or whomever) wrote/allowed that scene. Don’t do it again.

Oh, yeah. Let’s stop rehashing the plot points, OK? How many “love spell” Buffy’s have we had? There’s Xanders love spell that was aimed at Cordy, there was the “Spike and Buffy get married” love spell that was unintentionally started by Willow. This one is getting as tired as the “Frat party gone horribly wrong” phase that Whedon went through in seasons 3-5.

Dawn and then Xander. And he had to walk into the school, look for Buffy, and then spied her through the window. I guess all those people walking past the door couldn’t be bothered to notice that the new counselor is laying on the quarterback. I’m glad she picked a room that nobody was using and that nobody wanted to prepare for the next class.

Come to think about it, this is the second time that credulity has been stretched past the breaking point this season (he says about a show that deals with vampires, witches, and the like 😉 ). The Anya episode - that had to be the most unpopular fraternity on campus given that nobody came by, nobody called, and not a one of the guys was missed for the ENTIRE DAY that they were dead. I also guess that the fraternity was comprised of only 12 brothers with neither a single pledge nor a “little sister”, or that none of the other brothers had on-campus girlfriends.

Sorry about going into caps-mode - for some reason, I can’t be arsed to bother with coding.

I don’t know. Does everyone holler “Norm!” when you walk in the room?

Yeah, god knows you should leave your friends and never stick to anything you like! 😛

The Bronze was never _just_ a high schooler hang-out. We just saw the Bronze through the eyes of teens for so long.

I think it was abundantly clear that my earlier post wasn’t to be taken seriously. My point was “it was a joke, don’t sweat it.” And to take offense at that is, IMO, the very definition of “humorless.”

I’ve been called a lot of things, including “unfunny.” Never humorless, though. Sorry, but your post came across as mocking and condescending. I’m sick of people who butt into discussions just to point out how stupid the discussion is. If you’re not interested in the damned rocket launcher, just don’t talk about it. Let the people who are interested in it do what they want.

Okay, first define exactly how far is “too far.” Then explain why you get to set the definition. If you think a particular discussion is going “too far,” stop participating in it. Don’t make fun of people just for having a lower threshold of boredom than you do.

> And that goes double when it comes to criticism – I often hear accusations of “sloppy writing” flying around, when in fact I think the writers were just going for something else entirely, not being sloppy. To over-analyze a throwaway joke to the point where you’ve sucked the humor out of it isn’t intellectual; it’s just the opposite.

Well, now I’m just confused. I always thought the opposite of “intellectual” was “physical.”

**Sua** : I didn’t have any problem with your post, except my usual one, which is that I don’t like people who are more perceptive and more eloquent than me. You bastard. Anyway, you at least addressed the topic before you dismissed it, which is all I ask.
