The candidates in the local by-election have been [announced](http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-27391295), and along with Labour, Tories, LibDems, UKIP, the Greens, something called the Patriotic Socialist Party and a pair of local councillors standing on single issues as independents, we also have some Silly candidates.

I have pasted these from the BBC website:

> [@](#):
>
> Rodgers, Dick - Stop Commercial Banks Owning Britain’s Money
>
> Brick, Nick The Flying - The Official Monster Raving Loony Party
>
> Bishop, David Laurence - Bus-Pass Elvis Party

“Stop Commercial Banks Owning Britain’s Money” is aka the [Common Good](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Common_Good_(political_party)). Even wikipedia has hardly heard of them, but they seem to be based on Christianity and the Gold Standard, judging by the name. The candidate is a former doctor and priest turned political no-hoper with a seemingly non-distinct [political platform](http://www.theguardian.com/politics/person/11200/dick-rodgers).

Obviously I’m over the moon to finally have a [Loony](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_Raving_Loony) candidate. It’s all quite surprising, as only the big two, along with UKIP and the LibDems had a candidate here in the General Election.

As for the [Bus-Pass Elvis Party](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_the_Militant_Elvis_Party), look at this:

> [@](#):
>
> On 6 March 2014, standing as the Bus-Pass Elvis Party, Bishop won 2.3% of the vote in a by-election for the Clifton North ward of Nottingham City Council, taking fourth place in the election, ahead of the Liberal Democrats.

I always like to see those back-stabbing treacherous little shits get their come-uppance.

So, who would you vote for on the existentialist satirical politics front? I was thinking Bus-Pass Elvis, as they seem to make sensible points in a humourous fashion which I find endearing while the Loonys seem to have gone off the boil a bit and the Common Good aren’t fervent or funny.

It’s true what they say. All politics is local.

I’m all for stopping bank commercials. They’re boring. And while we’re at it, let’s stop perfume/cologne commercials, too. They NEVER make any sense.

What? Stop commercial banks, not bank commercials? Oh, I’m afraid you’ve lost me there.

It is utterly irrelevant to me, but I’ve always loved the notion that there is an official Monster Raving Loony Party out there. The best the US can counter with is Norman Mailer’s campaign in the early 1970s, when he ran for mayor of New York on the No More Bullshit platform.

Yeah—the Firesign Theater’s joke campaign for president used the slogan “Not insane!”
