[I bet you all much rather see I didn’t post in this thread. Considering my reputation here. So I’ll offer what 95% of the Dutch think. Not just me, gum, the cunt.]
Why would anyone be opposed to gay marriage? Who’ll get hurt by it? People aren’t thrown off of high buildings, right? No women are being mutilated, correct? So, Why?
95% of the Dutch [and me] wish you strenght. Hope to see many married homo-sexuals in your area soon.
You know, from time to time Mockingbird can get a little shrill, loud, overly opinionated – you pick the term you choose.
But you know what? Neither of us had to deal with being thrown out of our home and disowned. Neither of us has MS (as far as I know, anyway). Neither of us has had to deal with rejection by a man we fell in love with. (I presume; correct me if I’m wrong.) Neither of us is someone that the Fundalooney Fringe is campaigning to systematically remove civil rights from (and a few of the fringe folks are in fact looking to do that).
So if something makes Mockingbird post something less than calm and dispassionate in tone, I for one don’t have too much of a problem working up a bit of sympathy for him, and an understanding of why his posts are sounding snarky.
You, on the other hand, I don’t know any excuses for being obnoxious and belligerent on a regular basis, because someone has the temerity to disagree with the truths you are the purveyor of. You, sir, are a legend in your own mind. And I dearly long for either Popeye or Octavianus to show up.
You won’t ever get it so long as you’re fixed in your belief that I must be a sicko laughing at a gay guy’s brutal murder, either. When you stop reacting and start thinking - really thinking, not just going through the motions to justify what you already believe - you may find things become clear.
I just want to drag this excellent point of JayJay’s out of hibernation and hold it up to exhibition again.
Take a good look at it, everyone. Read the first clause, down to “…people,” again. That’s what Rick thinks is the point he’s making. Now, the rest of you go about your business. Rick, stick around this post for a minute. You, read the part from “he just…” to “to worry about…”. That’s what every non-lawyer with any sympathy for gay people except myself see you as doing. With all due respect, you have been running around GD showing white, water-resistant feathers, a large. flat bill (which most people attributed to your profession at first), and webbed feet in numerous posts, and it’s getting very difficult for even the most well-intentioned poster to put any credence in your claim that you are not a duck.
Oddly enough, people are sometimes admitted to the hospital without having planned to be there. Sometimes they even die there, and their partners are told by the hospital that their 15 year relationship, cemented by a Vermont civil union, is meaningless in terms of holding the hospital responsible for the wrongful death. Thankfully the courts have so far disagreed with the hospital.
Anyone with property should have legal papers explaining how they want it disposed of. But should one half of a mixed sex couple die intestate, every state in the union provides that the surviving spouse automatically inherits. In 40+ states the surviving partner of a same-sex couple has no automatic spousal inheritance rights.
Setting up a will or trust takes longer than an hour and depending on the complexity of the estate can run into the tens of thousands of dollars for legal fees. One more hoop same-sex couples are forced to jump through that mixed couples aren’t. And sometimes even when there is a will or a deed to a house the surviving partner isn’t recognized because some blood relative crawls out of the woodwork claiming the partner exercised “undue influence” over the deceased. Just happened in Texas earlier this month. Texas and Kansas even void male-female marriages retroactively if one of the parties is a post-op transsexual, even if the TS person has legally changed their birth certificate to reflect their corrected sex.
No one’s asking you to make gay rights your own personal crusade. All anyone is asking is that you not make an ass of yourself either when you discuss it or when they come up for a vote. So far you’ve shown yourself less than capable of doing either.
I have personally known two cases where this happened in the relatively small city of Montgomery, AL. In both cases, the decedent was not wealthy and for his mate to have challenged the relatives claims would have cost more in legal fees than the estate was worth; also in both cases the relatives took furniture and other items that were purchased jointly by the couple. In one, there was also a nasty custody issue: the decedent had legally adopted the baby of his drug addicted teenaged niece and reared her as his own child with his partner in what nobody could call anything but a two parent family, but since Alabama laws do not allow two SS people to adopt his survivor had no rights; meanwhile, the niece had become born again and wanted her 7 year old child, who had known no life other than as the pampered child of a middle class couple who doted on her ever move, to return to her (she lived in public housing with her other illegitimate children). The courts basically told the child to “kiss daddy goodbye”, and even more than a few conservative straights were ready to kill, but the partner was assured that he had absolutely no legal rights to stand on and appeal was useless.
Duffer, here’s the link I promised you. The post I noted was post 49. I had intended to keep up my end in this, but there’s been a completely unexpected and rather horrendous development at what remains of my job, so I am probably out of this thread for the weekend. It’s nothing personal, just a bad situation.
Good news! The evil fucking bastards have backed down and, for now, have no plans to hang gay federal workers out to twist.
Of course should the evil fuckers get back into office and not have another election to worry about, they’ll be completely unaccountable.
Fuck them. Fuck every last one of them and fuck anyone who who thinks this continuing anti-gay demonization is right and especially fuck anyone who thinks it’s wrong and still plans to vote for the evil fucker anyway.
Otto, you must be reading my mind.
To anyone who cares…
As someone who has always done “the right thing” except when it came to this one issue, I say to hell with them. I did all the right stuff - good grades, honorable military service, good job, paid taxes, all that shit.
Still I have to quietly listen to a bunch of bullshit at work, on TV, everywhere, and keep my mouth shut. If these same assholes were talking about “gooks, niggers, wetbacks, kikes, spics, micks, wops”, or any other offensive slur you can think of, they would be dealt with immediately. However, “faggots” are fair game. Some of them are just picking on an “approved” target, others seem to have a very real hate to them. I would just love to see them talk their bullshit and get stomped by some gay guy who looks like a grizzly bear.
As far as the current administration goes, fuck them and fuck anyone who votes for them. You don’t like gays? Who the fuck cares. To quote The Rock, “It don’t matter what you think”. Mind your own fucking business, and stay out of mine.
Damn, I think I like this flaming business. Feels good.
I still don’t see how I was celebrating it, it was just a fact about the likely voting. I apologize if it upset you, but that wasn’t the intent. Hope the deal with the engineer went well and good luck with whatever’s happening with work.
To everyone else, I think I’ll avoid posting to any threads involving gays for awhile. I’m certainly not helping anyone’s cause and will try to stick to threads I have some knowledge about.
