Well, military invasion has been the cornerstone of Bush’s foreign policy, with overwhelmingly positive results, so why not give it a shot for domestic policy as well? ---

Yes, all it will take is for a few people to start sneezing in some pocket of political dissent, and GWB will have crack military assassins and a fleet of black helicopters in there to establish a “quarantine”. So what now? I am very interested, since I have parakeets and chickens. Are Military Police going to be conducting health inspections of my birds? Will Swifties be accusing birds of being chicken? Why do parrots hate America and all that. Give me a break. It’s a bid for more personal power by Bush, in the face of yet another boogieman. On the other hand, some of us would prefer a plan for the possibility of a flu epidemic or pandemic that doesn’t mention use of the military as a first step. The words _police state_ are not gentle on my mind. ---

I’m dead set against it. But I don’t blame Bush for bringing this up after the shitstorm he took over Katrina. Some of that shitstorm was justified, but much of it was not.
