Bush apologizing on Arab TV. Aftermath. Why not Al-Jazeera ?

A miracle has occured: the thread has somehow been hjiacked even while staying directly on topic!

I wouldn’t stand too close - it appears to be ablaze.

There shall be no cramming of anything in unmentionable places in GD. Got it?

Regarding Fearless Leader’s apology: it was lame and indirect, but seems to be the best he can do. My guess is he’s so accustomed to weasel-wording that even a simple apology is a chore. So I’m inclined to stamp this “would if he could but he can’t”, give him a Gentleman’s C (to add to his collection), and move on.

If I may commit the heresy of returning to the subject of the original post: last night on Hardball Chris Matthews interviewed some guy with Al-Jazeera who indicated that they would be happy to interview Mr. Bush. (Rather interesting interview - the guy was reasonable and rather knowledgable about Western culture).

Why does this surprise you? I expect most journalists covering international affairs to be familiar with non-native cultures (which is why I’m often disappointed at the limp-wristed excuse for journalism we get in the 'States these days).

In any event, I’m sure George W. Bush would be glad to appear on al Jazeera the moment they agree to two inalienable requests:

  1. No hardball questions.
  2. The right to review and screen all questions beforehand.

Now wasn’t * that* a surprise to you…

And how could it be that I completely understand why.
Salaam. A

rjung and Aldebarn, I hate to ruin your week, especially so early in the week, but I didn’t say diddly about being surprised. I said it was interesting. And it was.

CNN did a piece a week or two ago about Al Jazeera’s reporting. Very interesting. The AJ guy gave some good answers…

I would like AJ to get a more balanced reporting and therefore give Arabs a more legitimate defense of their views.
