Bush demands Kosovo independence

I don’t see what the big deal is about this. I don’t consider “at some point in time” to be a deadline, but even if it were, why do we necessarily have to have the same policy for Iraq that we have for Kosovo?

RTF: I didn’t read your post carefully enough. I had just read the Pit thread, and my post would be more appropriate for that. I see now that you were not making any comparisons between Kosovo and Iraq, and that Bush seemed to have no idea exactly what his policy was for Kosovo.

Does anyone think we can back up what Bush says here?
I know that he is bound and determined to go out as “The War President”, but I don’t think we have the manpower at this time.

Kosovo might become independent without a war. If it simply declares independence, and the U.S. recognizes it, and neither the Serbians nor the Russians are willing to go to war over the point, then its independence will be a fait accompli.

That’s a lot of “ifs” to hang a threat on. What should we do if Russia decides not to recognize Kosovo’s independence?
