They generally consider the effect of the pre-emption when they choose to take the President prime-timeā€“at least they have in the past. Itā€™s odd that theyā€™d choose to pick a night that screws over Fox, given that FNC has been Bushā€™s biggest ally/hand job provider on television since day one. ---

Is there any kind of pool on how many times he gets to say ā€˜freedomā€™ and ā€˜America/nsā€™ in a 45 min. so-called press con ? What about the primary juxtaposition of the evening, ā€˜sacrificeā€™ with ā€˜democracyā€™, maybe ? ---

I hate to side with Dio - but Iā€™d rather watch AI/24 too. Bushā€™s speeches are excruciating to me; Iā€™d much rather (and always do) read them the next day. I get all the information in about an eleventy billionth of the time. I donā€™t think Iā€™ve actually seen five minutes of a presidential speech in my lifetime. Reading works much better for me (for comprehension as well incidentally). ---

Iā€™m still waiting for the combination of Presidential election and American Idol, to be called American President and based along the lines of AI. People from all over the country will audition and be eliminated until itā€™s down to the final 12. We can then vote over the phone for who we want instead of having to go to a stinkin school or fire station to vote. Sure, I can imagine all sorts of problems such as other countries stuffing the vote by using auto dialers or China getting a couple million people to speed dial. Such is life. No more of these boring candidates, letā€™s have some 16 year old chicks fight it out to run the country. ---

Drink when he flubs his lines, says an overused word, etc. Itā€™s the only thing that could make watching a speech of his bearable. ---

In my admittedly weak defense, I currently limit my reality viewing only to AI and The Apprentice. I really only have a handful of TV shows that I watch (besides the above mentioned shows, I watch The Sopranos, Deadwood, South Park, Chappelle and Curb Your Enthusiasm when itā€™s on. Thatā€™s pretty much it except for sports and news) but what I watch, I watch religiously. I hate to have my routines interrupted. ---

Any of yaā€™ll remember when VCRā€™s were, like $600? Nobody could afford to get one except rich people, but you could go rent one and a few tapes for about $25 in the mid 80ā€™s, which would be around $35-40 today. ---

Interesting. For the first time ever, Iā€™ve noticed people using _anymore_ where I would say _now_. Is this common? Limited to Texas? Itā€™s quite striking to someone who has never encountered it. I used to like ā€œThe West Wingā€ when it was new. Now itā€™s just another soap to me. I still catch it sometimes but Iā€™d rather be reading. I watched the first few episodes of that Steven King thing but I lost interest pretty quick. (Kingdom Hospital, I think? It was pretty bad IMO) Watch sports? not anymore I did when I was younger and used to actually play sports myself. But all my old teams are gone and Iā€™ve lost respect for the ā€œSuperStarsā€ and the multi-million dollar contracts and all the bullshit that goes with it.
