Never mind AI–like Friends, ER, Seinfeld, and Frasier, I have never spent a second of my life watching it. How about _Arrested Development?!_ They’ve moved 24 or something into the timeslot of Sunday at 9, pre-empting the rerun of Malcolm and the NEW AD!!

Feel our pain!

Although actually, it means the last AD will air during sweeps; hopefully the promotion will get it new viewers. They just can’t kill this show. Of course, Fox is going to get off on withholding the info on its fate until after the last episode for this season has aired.

And oh yeah, in general, it’s silly to worry about a press conference pushing aside yet another reality show. Which of this is rarer these days?

I’ve never voted in ten years of being allowed to do so. I’ve always been disgusted by self-defeating and mindless partisanship, and have felt that voting was simply an act of choosing a puppet on the right or a puppet on the left. I understand that the right to vote is also the right not to vote, and therefore chose to stay out of the process on that level. I’m sure whoever gets elected will be a liar, will fuck me and alot of other people, will do a few things with some positive effects, and will make sheltering and assisting those special interests that helped them to achieve political power a priority over the interests of average citizens.

That being said, I have now decided to vote against Bush because of this foolish fucking move. I waited 5 weeks while 24 went on hiatus. It is one of only about 4 shows that I watch, and it is getting really fucking good. I am a part of a huge demographic (males 18-35) that fiends after this show. A little foresight would have gone a long way torwards not pissing off all the fans of this intense show. I consider it a diss. Fuck him. Do some research. Talk when people want to listen. Do your fuckin’ homework, and pitch your political bullshit in a way that doesn’t fuck up one of the small pleasures that we can all afford. Fuck you and your press people, GW. I’ve stayed out of all of this until now, but now I will vote simply to keep you out of my TV schedule in the future. Fucknut.

Some good quotes floating around the internet:

> [@](#):
>
> Why pre-empt the best night on TV? Presidents love doing this for the simple reason that this guarantees them a bigger audience. People tune in to see their favorite show(s) only to see George W.'s weasly little face. (It’s a known fact that Reagan liked to pre-empt the Cosby show for this very reason.)

> [@](#):
>
> A brief historical note: Constantly interrupting scheduled television programs for speeches and news conferrences, sometimes as much as twice in one week, was the beginning of the nation turining against Lyndon Johnson.

> [@](#):
>
> I mean, at least 24’s fiction is entertaining. It’s not like the Shrub is going to say anything of actual significance. That is, unless the White House Press Corps develops some balls and decides that getting the Shrub offscript – ie: getting him to tell the truth – is more important than maintaining their ability to get meaningless ‘gets.’ Since the Republican Party is controlled by people whose only interests are power and money – not national security, not terrorism, not God ‘n’ religion and certainly not the truth, what has this idiot got to say that’s more important than Jack Bauer tracking down the makers of the virus? Answer: absolutely nothing. If anything, the Mendacity Conference will be _less_ important than the next episode of ‘24.’

> [@](#):
>
> Let’s see…I can sit and watch the President spin the current Iraq situation like an empty Coke bottle, or I can watch Uma Thurman go hardcore on Go-Go Yubari and the Crazy 88…Wow, tough call.

And this next one sucks. Apparently Canadians get to watch Jack Bauer tonight. It’s a sad, sad day:

> [@](#):
>
> HAHAHAHA American suckers! You have to listen to your Texan dictator bitch and moan, while us Canadians get to enjoy the greatest episode of 24 yet! I’m proud to be Canadian. Have fun tonight guys! I know I will, suckers!

Damn Canadians.

> There’s nothing to gain by watching press conferences. It’s all platitudes, dumb jokes, empty compliments and relentless applause and polite laughter. You can scan the transcript in 2 minutes and cull any facts (which are few and far between) and save 58 minutes of mind-numbing idiocy. Is there any reason to watch Bush read a carefully prepared transcript of content-free spin doctoring? I’d rather watch AI, but I’d also rather watch grass grow.

Time for Mad Libs!

There’s nothing to gain by watching American Idol . It’s all platitudes, dumb jokes, empty compliments and relentless applause and polite laughter. You can scan the transcript in 2 minutes and cull any facts (which are few and far between) and save 58 minutes of mind-numbing idiocy. Is there any reason to watch Simon read a carefully prepared transcript of content-free stupidity ? I’d rather watch the press conference , but I’d also rather shave my balls with a rusty knife .

**Carnick** seems to have invented a new kind of fallacy – to attempt to refute an argument by demonstrating that he can reproduce a syntactically similar but semantically different argument with simple exchanges of key nouns. Of course this can be done with any sentence or paragraph, since it is basic principle of all languages that syntactic structures are limited and semantic possibilities nearly (if not) infinite. I encourage everyone to join in, and reply to any argument with the “Mad Libs” fallacy.
