Well, don’t leave us hanging, tbg. Tell us what NEA is actually about.
I know that it’s about school reform. That’s why it has put $150 million into public education improvements since 1983. I can’t think of another non-government organization that has supported education that way.
And I know that its three priorities are “to improve the quality of teaching, toincrease student achievement, and to make schools safer, better places to learn.”
The notion that the NEA, which is extremely well know for its politics, ought not from time to time be audited to ensure that the legally mandated walls between political funds and non-political funds are sufficient, is of course preposterous.
As regards Stern, the Wall St. Journal is reporting that the FCC is indeed readying a crackdown (Link, for current WSJ online subscribers and those silly enough to cough up $75 just to get this story). However, for Stern to complain that the crackdown is because he changed his mind about President Bush and in the very next segment broadcast a woman vomiting[sup]1[/sup] on a guy with a vomit fetish seems, uh, well, like he might not have a good understanding of reality.
“Reality,” for those keeping track, is that lots of people in government, Democrats and Republicans, were really pissed off by the whole Janet Jackson thing. Yeah, you’re thinking that it was “just a boob.” Me too. But they’re thinking that the whole halftime show was disgusting and not fit for family viewing, and that it even briefly occurred to CBS and the NFL that MTV was the right people to organize a halftime show in the country’s most widely-watched family event broadcast over frequency owned by the government is a pretty clear sign that the FCC hasn’t been doing its job for a long time. So, crackdown.
[sup]1[/sup]: The woman in question is an acquaintance of mine. She’s really quite nice. Go figure.
All tax exempt organizations can be audited at any time, and should be.
So you want me to just go and declare myself a tax exempted organization without being audited frequently to see that what I am doing is tax exempt worthy?
What if these NEA people were spending their money on buying Houses and Yachts?
I can’t believe you don’t know this…ugh…
The Reagan movie isn’t shown.
Because people were so disgusted and it would cost NBC or who the hell ever it was, more sponsors than they were willing to have. And it was shown on Show Time right?
Bill Maher was fired from PI for saying the terrorists weren’t cowards.
Wow…so Bush owns PI now huh? Or wait wait…Marines stormed the CEO’s house and told him (tomorrow Bill Maher will be fired, or we will kill your cat.)
Clear channel shuts down Stern.
Stern is so vulgar, I’d like to shut him down completely. He’s getting what he deserves.
on’t even want to think about the Patriot Act or the proposed Amendment.
Oh please…the Patriot Act expires in what…200 Days? Something like that and then it has to go on re-evalutation. And the proposed Amendment? Well, would you rather have States fighting eachother?
Because I can tell you right here, if California or rather…Oregon or such, legalized Gay Marriages, Nevada (Which made it Unconstitutional for Gays to Marry, and I’m a proud voter for that), will fight to the death to not recognize it.
Any Vermont or Massachussettes or where ever Gay Marriage would be legalized, any one from such a state coming here who would like to be recognized can forget it.
And I and 1 million other Nevadans are stock full of Guns and our Guard is stock full or M1A2 Tanks (and our Tankers are OPFOR qualified and own the Regulars every year at NTC…don’t think you’d have an easy fight just because we’re small. Our Unit the 221st Squadron has repeatedly owned superior forces using nothing but outdated Soviet Tactics.) and we’re ready to kick your ass if you say otherwise.
Now is that what you want for this nation?
I think the Amendment will save a lot of blood in the long run.
I’m sorry The_Broken_Column, but did you just suggest that gay marriage would lead to civil war? I kind of laughed when I read that until it dawned on me that you might be serious. I really hope that’s a joke and you’re not willing to kill people to stop other people from marrying.
The most astounding part of this quote, is the fact that you apparently think this is the moral and just position to take on the matter.
In what Bizarro-world is blood running in the streets due to civil war better, moral, and less harmful to society in general than allowing two consenting adults of the same sex join in a marriage and officially commit thier lives to one another?
