I said I wasn’t sure that was a slur. That was not my objection. So I don’t need to apologize. No one has tried to explain why he was talking about Polish immigrants when the question was merely about a visa. If he had given an approx figure, no one would have thought he was showing off, just doing his homework. I still think that if he were going to Poland, he could’ve done some little homework on the Polish population here, esp. when he himself brought it up.
I understand GQ is for questions which have factual answers. What’s the Question again?
Please read my actual criticism.
Bush announced that he was abandoning Kyoto nine weeks or so before his people had prepared any credible counter-proposal. I do not defend Kyoto. I note that a president who announces that we are walking away from an international protocol to reduce pollution and responds to the question “Well, what are you going to do?” with “Uh, let me get back to you on that.” is not acting very intelligently. (If he actually had a team working on a counter-proposal, he could have waited until it was prepared and announced, “Kyoto is fatally flawed; here is what we will do instead.” Instead of that, he made a premature announcement that confirmed all the opinions (regardless of their validity) that he is nothing more than the president of Big Oil who happens to occupy the White House.)
Similarly, by making a premature announcement, as if his only audience in the world was the U.S. public, and without sending a little preparatory note to the leaders of other governments who are also stalling Kyoto, he gave them no opportunity to prepare their own responses to his remarks and forced them to publicly denounce him for his unilateral highhandedness. Had he waited until he had his counter-proposal and let them know in advance, they could have found their own ways to side with him without appearing to the opposition parties to be caving in to U.S. demands.
His stupidity was doing the correct thing in the absolutely worst way. This is the sort of thing for which I am willing to bash him, rather than getting caught up in little verbal slips or his lack of knowledge regarding the numbers on immigration quotas.
There are a few questions in the OP, let me check:
-
Somebody tell me our President really isn’t that stupid. (If that can be counted, he is asking for something)
-
Who is the “us” he’s referring to?
-
Does he mean “us” to read “the U.S. Navy”?
-
Would Bush refer to Iowans as “our friends and neighbors” and to the people doing the bombing as “us”?
I think all of the original questions have been answered…
I’m not sure where this discussion belongs. I do, however, know where it does not belong.
