> [@kenobi\_65](#): > > **Crazy People** , a Dudley Moore movie about an advertising agency exceutive who gets thrown in a mental institution for writing truthful ads (example, “Metamucil: We help you go to the toilet so you won’t get cancer and die.”). As it turns out, the other residents of the institution are very good at writing ad copy. 😃 "If it weren’t for us, you’d have no damn phones at all. AT&T. We’re tired of your shit." ---

> [@FriarTed](#): > > "If it weren’t for us, you’d have no damn phones at all. > > AT&T. > > We’re tired of your shit." Reminds me of Ernestine, the snotty telephone operator played by Lily Tomlin: “Here at the phone company, we help everyone from the President of the United States to the scum of the earth.” ---

As it turns out, the other residents of the institution are very good at writing ad copy. 😃 “See _THE FREAK_- this movie won’t just scare you, it will fuck you up for life!” I had just started working for mental health agencies when that movie came out and you wouldn’t believe how upset a few activists from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) got. Most of the mental health patients and professionals I knew who saw it thought it was hysterical (unrealistic of course, but no moreso than most comedies). ---
