Well, nnot really busted flat. But here I am in Denver’s Airport, whatever the hell it’s called, typing on some itsy bitsy keyboard at an Internet kiosk. Once again the spectre of a business trip calls. Three days in LA for E3, the big video game trade show. And hell, there isn’t even enough time to get something to eat before my connection. I hate this road warrior crap. Bitch, moan and whine, I suppose. After this I’m in DC for one day and back to Ohio. But I saw the terminal and thought it would be nice to check in. I’ll let you all know if I see anything cool at the show (I’ll log in from the media room). ---

Actually, LucasArts ‘Mercenary’ is the Game of the show for me so far. Calling in an air strike on UN HQ Pyongyang was a blast. And Knights of the Old Republic 2 is rocking. ---

Hey, for YOU guys it would be fun. For those of us in the press it’s three days of gruelling work. Although I admit it’s gotten better since I became the boss. Had a good meeting with some people from HP about their new game-machine initiative. It looks pretty ripping, if you can believe it. Yes, Unc, I work for a bird watching magazing. But I also **own** a game industry site (from which I derive about 25% of my income…with luck more shortly). I avoid mentioning the site here usually as I don’t want to seem to be shilling. Metroid Prime 2 rocks (so says my console reviewer that I brought here). There’s a bunch of cool new technology being displayed (including a sweet little piece of software that will allow multiplayer online games to be played on mobile devices. How’d you like to play Everquest or Final Fantasy on your cell phone? It’s coming… You guys should see the secret press demos for ‘Playboy: The Mansion’. The bunnies were a sexist touch, I admit. But sexism is always rampant on the trade show circuit. ---

I don’t think that if you gave out the site name in this thread it would be shilling. I really would like to find a place other than Gamespot for reviews. Gamespot sucks. On another note: Did you happen to see the Magic: The Gathering Invintational at E3? I have been watching it this week on Magic Online, so it would be neat to hear a firsthand report. ---

Hell, can’t speak for anyone else, but it’s always good to have a competent site I can go to. There’s only so much unbiased stuff I can get from sites owned/operated by the folks who want me to buy the game (because they make it). ---

As that may be, I don’t like to bring it up as I don’t think the powers that be would be wild about me using my membership as a marketing tool. HP game machine meaning a computer customized for the game experience. More thoughts on the show… If 40% of gamers are women (as the ESA claims) I’m eat my hat. 90%+ of the games I saw were mindlessly violent, mindlessly sexist, or both. If that’s appealing to woman then I’m off in never-never land. The GameCube is dead. 'pun, you’re right that the console market is too crowded. I saw very few games developed for the GC and a zillion designed for BOTH PS2 and XBox. Apparently developing for both is the name of the game these days. Swearing is in. Many MANY games contained R-rated language and seemed unabashed about it. Obviously I couldn’t see everything at the show. There were more than 1000 new titles being shown there and God alone knows how many non-game piece of technology. Some good…some bad. I’ll answer whatever questions I can.
