Better yet, park the bus and the life-sized Ms. Parks in the pedestrian area in front of the White House. ---

But I don’t think anyone can say anything nice about Forrest.) I always liked the description Tom Clancy gave him in one of his novels (can’t recall which, they all tend to blur together). He had one of his characters call him a “racist genius”. Definitely one of the superior leaders of cavalry in history, but also one of the founders of the KKK, so no, not a nice person. And to be fair, he never was in command at Nashville (either in 1862 or 65), but was associated with the Confederate armies there. And I think there is a lesson here too; just because they are Nazis/White Supremists/KKK’ers does not necessary mean they are all stupid–there have been clever men who have awesomely terrible things all throughout history, so don’t underestimate them just because of the idiots in Virginia. IMHO as always. YMMV. ---

It sent a message that “just following orders” wouldn’t wash, anymore than the other excuse “I didn’t do it (but did give the orders)”. It also kept them from finding any way to get back into power - ever. Plus, by hanging them, there was an added level of disgrace. They didn’t get the “honor” of a military firing squad, they got hanged like the criminals they were. ---

There’s something extra-repugnant about the whole pig’s blood/pigskin thing. It seems extraordinarily dehumanizing to even suggest some of those tactics. ---
