RE: Respecting the flag: I’ll never forget a conversation I had with my neighbor who was an Army captain home on leave after leading a company in the early flanking thrust through western Iraq in the first Gulf War. I asked him if he was bothered by all the anti-war protests and specifically some people burning flags. He is a fairly conservative guy and said that as an officer he had taken an oath to defend the freedoms of citizens of the USA. He went on to say that one freedom he would fight and die for was the right of his fellow Americans to freely express their opinions in a manner of their choosing. He summed it up as, “In other words, that flag that I’m fighting for represents, among other things, the right to burn it if one so chooses.” If only all military and right-wing folks had the same clarity of mind about the bigger picture. ---

You’re using the term, “thinks,” with a sense of charming irony, no? Yet again, Trump supporters can be proud of their man in the White House, flailing to shame an actual war hero who has more guts and courage in his toenails than Trump can ever dream of. I don’t agree with McCain on much of anything, but I’d never disparage his commitment to his country or his bravery. Nothing stops Two Scoops, though. There’s no depth to which he will not stoop.
