Twice in one day I had to triple check my Twitter feed to make sure I wasn’t being punked, or that the drugs hadn’t worn off or something. Trump. What the everloving fuck, man? I had barely processed my amazement over “Hey kids, let’s have a contest!” when I turn around and see him float a “Pocahontas” in front of a group of Navaho Code Talkers being honored. I mean, come on, man. He didn’t really do that did he? I swear, I didn’t fully believe it just from reading it. There was no way. I must have misunderstood something. Nope. Sure enough, “Pocahantas … but I like you …” I don’t think the callus that has developed on my forehead from all the face-palming I’ve been doing lately is ever going to heal. ---

With Trump in particular his insult comedy routine isn’t helpful in politics. He’s used to doing real estate deals with one particular group of people, concluding it, and then moving on to the next group of marks. Instead he goes around insulting in highly personal terms people who have their own personal power and in many cases will be in their positions much longer than he’ll have his, even if he is reelected (God forbid). There’s a reason that Obama didn’t lash out with personal insults at John Boehner all the time, and it’s not because they are good friends. ---
