The GOP’s tax bill is being proposed through reconciliation, which means that a bare majority can pass it in both houses of Congress. Accordingly they don’t need any Democratic votes for this and in fact appear to be drafting it in such a way that they will never be able to attract any. (I’m not objective about this, so shoot me.) But this isn’t why Trump was meeting with “Chuck and Nancy”. The government also has to pass a budget or at least a continuing budget resolution to keep most government programs running. Technically, the GOP can pass this through the House on a party line vote as well, and then they only need to get 8 Democratic votes in the Senate or convince the Democrats not to filibuster it. However, there’s a large enough faction of Tea Party types in the House that are refusing to fund the government at current levels, and demand cuts that are not acceptable to more moderate GOP members. As a result, the GOP itself can’t agree to pass a funding bill for the government, and since at least 2012 the government has been funded through a series of stopgap agreements between Democrats and the less extreme Republicans. Now that Trump is in charge, though, many of the Democratic House members are demanding that their support of such measures also be tied to some stuff they actually want, including possibly some sort of resolution on DACA, funding for CHIP, and potentially other things. If they can’t come to an arrangement the government will shut down. This is not insanity; this is what an authoritarian mind does. Destroy truth, distract, inflame. It’s not much different than when new sock puppets come in and thread shit, taking a healthy discussion on a topic and make themselves the subject of the thread. I said it a while ago: now that the long arm of the law, now that the institutions and the rule of law represent a very clear and present danger to Trump and his empire, the gloves are completely off, the bottle lying on the ground has been broken. He’s gonna make this an ugly bar fight. ---

What’s annoying with these videos is many of the news programmes are emphasizing “These videos have been debunked”, as if that matters. Anyone with a dose of sanity knows violent attacks of every flavor happen every day. The only logic of sharing a cherry-picked set of videos like this is if someone is incredibly racist, and looks at a whole other group of people as essentially animals, or wishes to promote that view. Trump has been pandering to racists since day 1 but this just moved into a whole other level IMO. ---
