I heard more than one legal expert say it could be an avenue into his tax records, but I defer entirely to your opinion based on your learning and experience. I’ve seen some pretty personal stuff filed as exhibits to pleadings. Still, as you said, tax returns would require a strong showing of relevance even to get them, and would remain under seal unless/until ordered unsealed at trial. That said, discovery can be pretty far ranging. And I’m not saying it’s right, but things have a way of leaking once so many eyes are on a thing so sought after. We’re probably going to see those financial records and international communications much sooner via Mueller’s investigation than any emoluments action. Civil cases can take so long to get to trial, and Trump will throw up every road block. All the same, I’m pleased to see the ruling go as it did. ---

I would have bet money we’d see those tax returns by now. Some disgruntled IRS lackey befriends a less-than-gruntled beancounter and leaks them to a never-gruntled journalist… (and Bob Woodward’s your leaky uncle!) ---
