I hand-to-heart love the fact that all of his words and actions can be compared to his previous tweets from years ago. He makes a fool of himself regardless of what he does. But, #be best or whatever. ---

On the whole MS-13 issue, has anyone explained to the idiot-in-chief that MS-13 isn’t a Mexican gang? It was founded right here in the United States (in Los Angeles). So it’s a domestic threat not a foreign one. And the members of MS-13 aren’t Mexicans; they’re Central Americans (predominantly Salvadorans). They founded the gang to contest the Mexican gangs for control of the LA drug trade. ---

They’re barely noteworthy enough to warrant a local response, let alone a national focus. It does scare and work up the good folks of Peoria, Alabama to keep harping on them, though. But in areas that do, hard-line immigration policies are detrimental. Because if the law abiding members of the community are afraid to go to the police because of their immigration status then the gangs have complete freedom to terrorize the communities. And it’s made worse by the fact that a lot of potential informants and witnesses are , technically, not law-abiding because they were forced or coerced into committing crimes. Here’s an excellent NYMag / ProPublica piece about a young boy who worked with the cops and pretty much got screwed over.
