“I just had a long and productive call with President @RT\_Erdogan of Turkey. We discussed ISIS, our mutual involvement in Syria, & the slow & highly coordinated pullout of U.S. troops from the area. After many years they are coming home. …” “I am pleased to announce that our very talented Deputy Secretary of Defense, Patrick Shanahan, will assume the title of Acting Secretary of Defense starting January 1, 2019. …” So Trump is talking to Erdogan about Syria, and told Mattis to not even show up anymore. Great. ---

Great. Someone on Twitter pointed out that right after that phone call on 14 December, Brett McGurk stopped tweeting status updates on the campaign against ISIS. I would imagine he was getting quite a few panicked calls from his coalition counterparts. Plus he had to tell the Kurds they were on their own. ---
