Yeah, I’m the same way. Gotta have TP, paper towels, and Kleenex. Lot’s of it. I Hate running out of paper stuff. I even buy napkins by the pound!
I guess because while growing up we always ran out of stuff like this.
I don’t stockpile butter (or anything else other than ammo) but I’m an avid home cook so I tend to buy unsalted butter in packs of 4 1-pound bricks.
I never considered it might go bad. This is a good point.
She always buys the cheapest store brand of everything. I kind of blew up the other day when she showed up with buns smaller than the hamburger meat for a bbq we were hosting. While I appreciate she is trying to save money, I mean… it’s just a few cents more for better buns…
I have, however, stood my ground in regards to only buying high class toilet paper. No sandpaper for me, thanks.
I don’t have a fetish but I do have a fairly bad memory for pantry goods.
This explains why I have three jars of ground fennel currently. What on earth am I going to do with all that?
(I once discovered the mother lode of chickens in my chest freezer. Must’ve bought them on sale, on more than one occasion, and then promptly forgot about them. I just kept pulling dead poultry out for the next few weeks of meals.)
Give one of your jars of fennel to me - I just used my last teaspoon day before yesterday!
Holy moly, if butter turned up at my grocery under $2 a pound, I’d stock up, too. Currently it’s $5.50 a pound for the cheapest stuff, sigh. I don’t hoard anything, but somehow I never have a problem with having enough spices. :smack: I have two containers of sage in my cupboard–I don’t even like sage all that much.
Butter isn’t cheap, so if she found it at a good price, kudos to her.
Freeze the butter. I always buy it on sale too. I bought several pounds of the house brand unsalted stuff on sale recently, and some semi-salted for everyday use. I stuck them inside a freezer bag so as to protect them even more than the store wrappers.
That’s me with thread, and explains why I have three spools of the exact same shade of green. :smack:
Apparently 4am is a good time for pondering about butter.
Laying in bed last night I idly asked her to explain more about the butter. Apparently, she got this butter at some 2 for one sale last Thanksgiving, and it might well be margarine. The expiration date on the boxes say it is OK until September of this year.
I asked about the rate of consumption, as we literally had 15 pounds of butter in that drawer. She is unsure how fast it is being used, but seeing as more than half of it is still there, today, I’d say September is gonna see a lot of butter left.
I suggested buying, maybe, 3 or 4 pounds on sale, and then waiting for another sale, as these things happen from time to time, right? I guess she is scared to be without cheap butter.
She also feels that it doesn’t go bad, and freezing it will ruin it.
So, what do I know?
