Buying a new car, closing the deal advice needed

Well, it may just be that easy for me, too, I just never did it before. I’ll let you all know when I buy.

Usually on the purchase order it will be neatly laid out with lines for: Purchase price less trade in value less cash down = amount to be financed. Since you are not financing through the dealer the last line should be zero and the loan you get from where ever you are getting it would go as cash down. The best thing would be to get a cashier’s check for the cash from savings and when you get the loan, they will probably ask how you want the proceeds and I would get a cashier’s check for that also.

PS: There will also be a line for amount owing on trade-in, but that probably doesn’t apply to you.

Keep in mind that you don’t have to pay for new plates. The dealership can do the paperwork for you to transfer the old ones over to the new car. You WILL have to pay for tag renewal at the same time as for the old car, however, so at best you’re just delaying that pain.

I don’t know where Anaamika is, but here the dealership doesn’t do anything for you as far as the plates are concerned. Here they mail you the paperwork indicating the tax to be paid along with the title for the new car and the title transfer paperwork a few days after the deal closes and it is up to the buyer to take it all to the courthouse and get it taken care of. Once at the courthouse, the buyer pays the tax, title and license fees and can then put the plates on the car (you have to take the plates to the courthouse also so the county treasurer can see them). Then you are allowed to put the plates on the car. If the registration is close to the expiration date, they make you pay until the next year. I don’t know how close that is though, I think it might be 90 days.

Also, here you only have 30 days from the date of purchase to take the paperwork to the courthouse.

Here, the dealer does all the paperwork, and will also do the plate swap paperwork. Your registration/title/plates show up in the mail.

Just a bit of trivia, until 2008 the plates stayed with the car here rather than going with the person. If you bought a used car you got the plates that were on it if it was an in-state trade and if you bought a new car or out-of-state trade you got new plates.
