“_________ Strong”
People with cancer or survivors of it saying things like “kick cancer’s butt” to cheer people on. Having known people who have died of cancer, it’s not a matter of willpower. Sometimes people just die despite everyone’s best efforts.
The one I’ve seen is “fuck cancer.” Sometimes there seems to be some social pressure to chime in.
Overuse of the word “mindful” to give a sensitive or new-agey vibe to whatever advice is being given. Like “be mindful of social distancing.” I know the word has multiple meanings , and when used in relation to meditation I’m fine and in agreement with it, but it’s been creeping into everything to give a fake “sensitive” vibe to any kind of command or exhortation.
I thought this thread was going to be about the OP being tired of all the covid coverage and talking about “our most vulnerable citizens”. I somehow missed the “buzzwords” part. I don’t seem to encounter “vulnerable” a lot, but I’ll allow it if the speaker can manage to pronounce it properly. VUL NER A BULL. Not VUN RIBULL:mad:
My list of buzz words and speech quirks is far too long to list and it includes just about every one that’s already been mentioned. Some I didn’t see:
Real Estate. As in “I don’t know how much real estate we want to devote on our front page to that”.
Dynamics. Totally thrown around without any regard to its meaning.
And one that is more specific to a co-worke,r and which staying home so I don’t have to hear it all day is almost worth it: “admittedly”. When trying to explain something to a client his long ramblings are peppered with “admittedly”.
How Californian of you. ![]()
Don’t you get me started, you!![]()
Is that the west coast / Calif. way? I just assumed it was the CORRECT way ![]()
As for me, I’m getting awfully damned tired of hearing “uncertain” and “uncertain times”.
It seems to be dying a natural death, but I still see it sometimes: the idea of using periods between words for emphasis. Too. Stupid. To. Live.
I’ll give all credit to people whodo hard work, or dangeous work, or go into a battle, but I am over the word “hero” It’s being overused. Everyone’s a hero it seems.
Yeah, there seems to be a lot of confusion between “doing one’s difficult or possibly dangerous job” and doing something actually heroic.
“Orthogonal”
“At the end of the day…”
At the end of the day we need to violently dispose of “at the end of the day.”
