Obama has made no recommendations yet, and any recommendations are a far cry from becoming law, Rather than wait for a law to take effect, or even signed into law, or even passed in Congress, or even considered by Congress, or even recommended by Obama, yes I’d say that stocking up on weapons that they don’t even need in the first place IS paranoia. ---

So they’re supposed to wait for the law to take effect, and then act, which would be… to not get the weapons that were banned, because hey, the ban went into effect? You all sound dumb when you clamor for banning these weapons, celebrate when politicians say they’re taking up this cause, and then call people paranoid for thinking they might actually come to fruition and acting on it. ---

What’s the benefit of waiting? What’s the cost of acting? Oh no, worst case scenario, they may end up with something they wanted anyway, and it doesn’t get banned. I fail to see how taking action here is faulty. ---

“Longer barrels and tighter tolerances” is gun lingo? I actually avoided using actual gun terminology so that it wouldn’t distract from the joke, because I know you pedantic assholes would focus on that instead. Bizarrely, I chose to go with the very basic layman version instead, and yet you are still a pedantic asshole. Huh. ---

Bans on certain types of weapons are being seriously considered, so people are rushing their timeline for buying these weapons to be ahead of any potential ban, and also any shortages caused by this discussion. Your whole post was a big non-sequitor. What does the nature of representative democracy and conspiracy theories have anything to do with buying a potentially banned item before it’s banned? ---

I don’t. If I was in the market for a gun now, I’d consider buying one now. But if a ban does go through like the '94 AWB, where banned weapons are grandfathered, then their constricted supply raises the value of pre-ban weapons. If they’re confident something will go through, then it actually becomes a pretty good investment. There are also different configurations of the rifles, different things you can do with them, etc. What is the point that you’re trying to make here? What is it that you think they’re trying to do? Work on quad-wielding them so they can take out as many cute kids as they can at once? ---

Not that I care if this particular group is relieved of its money, but if it was me I’d wait to see how it shakes out before joining a buying frenzy. ---

So your concern in this thread, then, is that the people rushing to buy AR-15s right now may not be in an ideal market? Come on, shoot higher. Come up with some sort of analogy relating to owning a whole lot of slaves rather than just a few. ---

It has nothing to do with your overall attitude towards the role of guns in society and self defense. It amuses me how you all get into these massive, consistent circle jerks, all making these wild claims about the paranoia and motivaton of gun rights advocates. That we’re all desperately afraid of the world, barely functional, that we all have tiny penises and that we literally clutch at our guns constantly. And yet if someone characterizes the attitude another way - in quite a bit more restrained and realistic tone, suddenly it’s worth over the top mocking as if it were totally out of place. Your bias on the issue is blinding and pretty absurd. Not at all. After the school shooting, several threads immediately sprung up that were absolutely gleeful that they’d get the chance to rub it into gun advocates faces. SEE, I TOLD YOU SO, THIS IS YOUR FAULT. The status quo has been reasonable to gun owners for a while now, so there’s not really reason to discuss it. The nature of discussion is such that someone proposes that new gun control legislaton be brought about, and then the gun rights advocates have to defend against it. This board, without a doubt, features far more of an anti-gun circle jerk than anything pro-gun. Do I really need to point out the absurdity of the guy WHO SAID THAT OWNING A FUCKING FIREARM IS MORALLY EQUIVELANT TO ENSLAVING OTHER HUMAN BEINGS now claiming to be on the restrained, quiet side of the argument? For fucks sake, you’re an idiot. ---

I can’t speak for others, but I’m not clamoring for banning these weapons. I have participated in the 10,000 current gun control threads to argue the merits of gun control in general, and that’s it. One problem is that people have asked gun owners how they’d approach the issue, and most of them\* start going NO GUN CONTROL EVER OF ANY KIND OMG HITLER. \*those who aren’t tend to attract “yeah, right, like you own a gun” comments. ---
