Hm, sorry, I don’t know why I made that repo private. I’ve changed it to public so you should be able to see it now.
Thank you!
I believe I have it working now, after installing make/gcc and making a few changes for Windows.
I will play with it some more and share anything cool
I got this puzzle a few years ago, where it was marketed as a “Daily Puzzle”. I still solve it each day. It gets easier with practice, as you soon learn which pieces are awkward and need to be placed first, and which pieces are the most flexible and should be saved for the end.
I also made up some other challenges:
- find a solution in which every piece touches the edge
- find a solution in which the minimum number of pieces touch the edge
(for both of these, any date is fine, not necessarily today’s date)
My update: I’m still regularly solving for each day. I’ve added it to my evening puzzles like crosswords and sudoku.
I find that some dates are quite easy, basically solving it as fast as I can put pieces down and at the other end some dates take quite a bit of effort. Sometimes overflowing into the next evening.
As I first posted, certain shapes are real bears to fit in and others are easy. General rule of thumb: fit the tricky ones as early as possible and save the easy ones for last.
