Is there an online, statewide database of parties to court actions in California? Ideally, both civil and criminal actions. I’d like to do a background check on someone without paying the $80 or so that background check services charge. ---

[This page](http://appellatecases.courtinfo.ca.gov/) features a search function for Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal cases in California; I think they would have included the database for the Superior Courts in the counties if there were a central state-wide database for this, so I guess you’ll have to search each of the Superior Court websites ([list](http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/find.htm)) individually. These searches are usually not free. ---
