Just another example of the massive stupidity that is California.
Marijuana being illegal is stupid.
I recently was in San Francisco for more than a week, and I found that people were smoking everywhere, at the bus stops, outside BART stations, outside every restaurant and bar, outside companies and businesses…my impression was that San Francisco had at least as many outdoor smokers as any other place in the US I’ve been to.
The idea of being able to pick up pot from the store on the way home from work on Friday, the same way I can pick up a twelvepack of beer, without having to chase down some dealer on the other side of town or call ten friends because no one’s got any or talk to people I don’t care for just to get a quarter, is an idea whose time has come. No one I know would bother with all that rigmarole just to avoid spending a buck or two in taxes.
Precisely. Picking up is always a pain in the ass. Even if you’ve got a great dealer that doesn’t creep you out, he’s not always going to have weed. Even if he does have weed, you never really know what you’re getting before you buy it.
Another reason no one would buy illegal untaxed weed anymore is the choice of strains. Different strains can have such distinct effects that they’re barely even the same drug anymore. It’s not even just about potency. This is why I don’t get it when people say “I tried weed, it’s not for me” That’s almost like saying “I watched a movie, they’re not for me” If multiple strains are sold and labeled with effects, it would be easier to get the result you want.
Not necessarily. We’ve had our rugged individualist system of healthcare and nanny state drug laws living alongside each other for many decades. The Netherlands has had Universal Healthcare and de facto legal pot alongside each other for quite some time.
As far as I’m aware, all the countries with Universal Health Care also still allow tobacco and alcohol (which is a far, far greater killer than all other drugs). Marijuana seems to have far less of a health risk than those other two popular drugs. It’s quite feasible to slap a tax on weed so users are paying for the increased health costs rather than the public at large.
I used to enjoy, but haven’t since I gave up cigarettes cos I seriously do not want to become a nicotine addict again.
I think that legalising cannabis is not only a very good idea, but probably inevitable in the near future.
Living in England I think that there would be a lot less fights and alcohol fuelled violence at weekends, which is a significant phenonemon over here.
I think that it would alienate organised crime from ordinary people.
At the moment people who buy dope illegally don’t want their suppliers ,who are probably running other business’s, arrested.
If the price of getting your dope is that maybe the seller is also selling crack and heroin, then all too many say so be it.
If legalised it would be taxed.
Instead of paying silly prices for leaves, you’d pay less and a lot of the money would go into your community instead of paying for whores and crack.
