What ever happened to that kid that punched a teacher?

It’s decidedly, and by federal law, none of our business. But I hope that he got some pretty intense intervention to help him control himself.

Me too, but perhaps not in the same way. It is the patent unfairness of giving teachers and school administrators letter grades (or pass/fail grades) based on the test scores of their population, regardless of how uncannily well those correlate with the scores of matched populations around the country, and how poorly a variety of interventions has done in making a dent in those scores, that has set me completely against the trendy school reform/“Waiting for Superman” crowd.

Although maybe it’s not trendy anymore. It’s been almost six years since I started beating this drum in Great Debates, and it was hardly a brand new thing then:
