Call of Duty: Black Ops

Never tried the China Lake. I don’t think I’ve even used it in Blops. The RPG is decent, but I prefer the Strela or, even better, a SAM. It willtake an attack helicopter down in one shot. It’s a big risk/reward deal, though.

Nitpick: that works for attack helicopters and gunships. It does not work for chopper gunners. You cannot lock on to a chopper gunner until the door is open.

Yes, I’ve shot down several attack helicopters with one shot from an RPG. I don’t believe the china lake etc. would take it down in one shot. Might be possible with two though.

If it’s like cod4 it takes like 8 40mm grenades to take down a helicopter. Which sucks, because I was god of the noob tube.

I used to make like cross-map shots through 3 obstacles and hit people in the face with the most beautiful 40mm shot you’ve ever seen, and immediately the guy killed would say OMG NOOB!!!

You sure about that?

I don’t know how it is on your system, but on the Wii, it seems like i’m lucky to ever even FIND the spy or counter spy plane, much less bring it down without someone shooting me in the process.

The second it goes up, it comes down, pretty much.

I don’t think you can before the door opens. I’ll have full view of a Huey and should be locked on before it hits the map, and I’ll get a Cannot Acquire Target message. One the Huey starts shooting, I can lock. Cobra’s you can launch on before they hit the map.

Is it possible to shoot down your own spy plane? I worry about this when I’m looking for the enemy one and hear “Our spy plane’s in the air.”

So, on a different subject: does anybody here like zombies? I don’t. Part of it is that I don’t know the maps, though that is easily remedied simply by playing them, but the other part is that it’s such an absurd game mode. Play until you die. That’s it. No advancement, no tracking, nothing. The allure of the multiplayer is that you always have something to work towards.

Also, which maps do you positively love/hate? I can’t stand Crisis or Convoy and I really dislike Kowloon. I’m also not a big fan of Nuketown and Cracked. With Crisis it borders on loathing, I’ll almost always back out when that map locks in, otherwise I’ll get demolished. I simply can’t figure out how to play it.

On the other hand, I’m a big fan of Berlin Wall, WMD, Discovery, Stadium, and Stockpile. I guess it’s just the way I play.

I went to GameSpot the other day and picked up my copy of Duke Nukem Forever (I know, I know… so far it’s been pretty good, but I digress), and the guy at the counter told me more maps were coming so I pre-ordered them. Have any of you done the same yet, and have you heard anything about them?

No. You can’t see your own. If you see a spy plane or counter-spy plane shoot it down.

Yes, I’m sure. At least on my system (PS3). If you try to lock on a chopper gunner before the door opens, you get a message “Cannot Acquire Target.” Also, not to stealth brag, but I call in a chopper gunner about once every other game, and I’ve never been shot down until after I’ve opened the door. I suppose it might be possible to shoot one down early with an RPG, but that would take a one-in-a-million shot.

As Airman points out, you cannot see your own spy planes or counter spy planes. If you see one, fire away.

Well, made it to level 50, thereby proving that anyone can do so. I find that Array, Radiation, and Villa are conducive to bringing down aircraft. Havana, Hanoi, and others are not.

Also, anyone here found a good way to exploit certain perks? I find that if you’re the OP40 player in Villa and you have lightweight and marathon, you can sprint into a great flanking position on the Tropas at the very start of the game. You run straight ahead past the big fountain, turn right into the little open passage way, and you can get there in time to catch the Tropas in the flank as they come out of the building below the snipers window that overlooks the little fountain.

Marathon helps you get to all those places anyways. The problem is, I don’t find Marathon to be all that useful.I’d rather have Ghost, Hardline, or Scavenger.

In the spirit of the question, I like a spot in Nuketown, right by the front of the boxes in front of the moving van where I can drop people as they spawn behind their house. I hate that map.

Also, are you going to prestige?

My default answer is yes. Is there a reason I shouldn’t?

I think it’s a sucker bet. By the time you know the weapons and try a few of the perks out, you end up back at zero again. I haven’t prestiged and don’t plan on doing it.

I’m a fairly active player (i.e. I don’t camp), so I’m generally not a fan of the maps that reward cheap camping, such as Kowloon, Cracked, Hanoi, Array, Berlin Wall, Stockpile and Discovery. All those maps to me, seem to give way too many opportunities for some chump to wait in a window/behind a barrel/in a shadow, etc… and pop me as I go by, with no warning, or visibility ahead of time.

I like Nuketown; apparently I’m relatively quicker in close than others; my best k/d and overall high kill matches come on this map.

I also like Casino, Convoy, Crisis, Jungle, Grid, WMD, Stadium, Zoo(?) and Villa.

For the most part, I like all the maps. I think Treyarch did a bang-up job with them.

Nuketown is amongst my least favorite maps. My least favorite one is Stadium. The rest, I can take at pretty much any time in a rotation. I didn’t get the last map pack and don’t plan on picking up the new one when it releases.

But what exactly does prestige do?

I think some are terrific, but others are horrendous. Based on having watched the map pack trailers, I think they’re in the mindset that there’s a lot more coordinated team play than there is, at least on Xbox live.

That, and some of their maps are such that the smart play isn’t to move, but to sit tight and wait for someone to come by. Kowloon is the best example of that, but Berlin Wall is another one where it ends up being like Boy Scout camp- everyone’s camping.

Nothing really. Gives you an extra custom slot every two prestiges. It just depends on whether or not you want to keep playing for XP and do the challenges and stuff again. If not, don’t worry about it.
