The thread [Next week is Drum Solo Week on Letterman!](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=611151) started 06-04-2011, 10:46 AM by **Dietrich K** is developing into a discussion about building a poll or polls for Greatest Drummer or something of the sort.

If you have interest in drumming and drummers, please join in the discussion in that thread – or this one!

The more input, the better the chance the poll(s) will mean something.

Thanks!
Zeldar

Now we got somethin’!! 🙂

I think part of the problem with getting input was the discussion about the logistics of polls was in a thread about a different subject (the Letterman thread).

If i’d seen this sooner I’d have had more to say, but right now it’s past my [del]sell-by[/del] bedtime. I’ll be back sometime tomorrow with (still more) thoughts on how to proceed from here.

One thing now; do you think it would be helpful to ask a mod to merge the salient points about polls from the Letterman thread to this one? Could they? Would they? Even if they won’t (or can’t) we still have a good start on a master list just from the names named in the various threads.

If nothing else, Thanks, **Zeldar** for all the effort you’ve put in so far.

Right you are! I was growing progressively more concerned that I was flogging a dead horse. Glad at least you have some positive thoughts about the issues.

Perhaps a way to migrate the discussion over here would be to find specific posts in the other thread(s) and quote (by copy/paste and “quote” tags) them into this thread. It’s not all that difficult, especially if you first copy/paste into a holding file (I use Notepad for it’s simplicity) and then build the new post in “quote-response” mode. Or just refer to the point/post indirectly.

Merging threads might bring in as much extraneous matter as pertinent stuff. But if you (or anybody) want to ask Mod help on that, I don’t object.

What I’d really like to see would be links to other threads on the subject(s) so we could get as large a group of comments and ideas to look at and consider. My searches have been limited to threads I posted to, or to specific drummers’ names I like. But I’m quite aware that my tastes are not in the mainstream at SDMB, and all I ask for is a space in the Big Picture where we jazz fans can have our voices at least heard.
