Would like to note that with the near-certainty that Trump is an active foreign agent, this is a pretty good time to call your Senators and Reps, especially those on the ® side.
Bumping for really no reason whatsoever. Just thought that this might be a good time to call your reps (R’s & D’s). Maybe it’s the hint of Fall in the air which is causing this bump. Who knows.
But call. Now. Today. Often. They will be tallying impeachment calls from their constituents, and you can be sure the other side is calling. Even if your rep falls on your side, you should still call them.
My calls today to Cruz & Cornyn:
"I am calling today to ask the Senator to support Senator McConnell’s call to have a full and open impeachment hearing in the Senate. In addition, I am calling on you to support a full and open trial, one which has the Senators casting their votes on the evidence of the matter, not the politics.
I am one of the 47% (and growing) Americans who think that Donald Trump is already deserving of impeachment, this opinion based on his sheer unfitness for the office. The fact that he bribed the Ukranian government to interfere with both the 2016 and 2020 elections, using my taxpayer dollars, is just icing on the cake, and gives the Senate full force and authority to convict him on Article 2, Section 4 of the US Constitution, under the charge of Bribery.
However, this is America, the President deserves a trial, and I eagerly await his defense. Thank you for helping Senator McConnell in preparing the road so President Trump can prove his full exoneration."
(There may have been a bit of sarcasm in that…?)
To Castro (Joaquin the Younger)
"Hey, just wanted to say I completely support your stance on impeachment, and I speak highly of the need to rid America of this cancer of her soul. Also, change the House rules to support fining people who ignore subpoena’s.
Also, count me in on the voices supporting universal health insurance, possibly starting with a M4A option. As someone who works in the private health insurance field, I can tell you that there is really no good reason for this industry to exist if the policy goal is to create a system which covers 100% of all Americans - in fact, private health insurance companies are detrimental to this effort.
Thank you."
One the few occasions I’ve had to contact my Congresspeople, I’ve had good luck going through their own websites. Getting a response is easier if you have a specific problem you would like addressed and not just bitching.
A year or two ago I was having serious issues with the Post Office. After multiple direct appeals to USPS were of course roundly ignored, someone suggested to me I contact my reps, both state and Federal. Everyone I contacted got back to me. I found most of them quite eager to assist me. Ultimately I don’t know what if anything anyone did, but I know my postal service vastly and permanently (so far) improved shortly after.
My reps, state and Fed, are 100% Democrats if that means anything.
I will be contacting my Congress people, and I also plan to contact a Republican rep. who is not my representative, but is in a nearby district, to say that if he does not back impeachment, I will be donating and working to defeat him in 2020.
I just thought I’d share that tactic for those who have great reps – give them a call of support, and also see if there’s a less great rep nearby whose feet you can hold to the fire a bit. Same if you have only terrible senators and representative. Call them to say you will mobilize to defeat them, or to support a primary challenger, and look for opportunities to do so.
For the Republican that I will be contacting, I plan to focus on the enormity of the president’s actions, and the need to restore honor and dignity to the office and to our government. And if he isn’t part of that, then he is part of the problem.
My underlining. My calls usually take about a minute per Representative or Senator that I call, so it’s one, two, or three minutes, depending on whether I’m calling my Representative, my Senators, or both*. Given how few letters I mail anymore, it takes me that long to find an envelope and a stamp, and take the letter to the mailbox.
I agree, though, that letters > phone calls > emails.
Speaking just for myself obviously, I make a lot more phone calls, because if a thought strikes me that I want to contact my Congressperson about, I just pick up the phone, say my name and where I live, state my topic, give my 30-second spiel, thank the staffer, and done.
- To express my opinion on judicial nominees, for instance, I’d be calling just the Senators. All the calls I’ve made about impeachment since the Mueller Report was released, OTOH, have been directed just to my Representative. Potential or actual legislation that both houses might see would involve all three.
Today’s message was simple:
"Not at all surprised that a man who married two Communists and took control of the Presidency with the assistance of the ex-Communist, ex-KGB Colonel, Vladimir Putin is looking for yet another Communist state to seal his victory over Democracy.
I call on you, Senator, to support impeachment, and I am mobilizing others like me* to support the removal of Donald Trump from the Presidency, and if that extends to removing his supporters, then so be it. I’m up to that challenge too."
