Well, term is starting again soon and all the little students are flocking back to Cambridge University… (The real one that is. You know - the one in Britain.) And so, I thought it would be a fun idea if all the Dopers in Cambridge (of which there are at least 5 or 6, possibly more) met up for a meal/coffee/some similar social activity; Ideally one which does not involve the word pub in it anywhere. 🙂 After all, Cambridge is a pretty small place, so we all live fairly close together. Hence it seems silly to _not_ at some point meet. Unless of course you find us scary… which we’re not really. We’re all sweet and innocent and fluffy. ::cough cough:: This is of course not limited to those of us at Cambridge university, but to anyone living in Cambridge (or sufficiently nearby to Cambridge that they want to join us). So, who’s interested? ---

Damn! **Kitarak** you should have suggested this _before_ June 2002, I would have been up for it. As it is, I’ve graduated now, and am in Birmingham (again the real one, in Britain) doing a PhD. Chances are you’d probably know me (or at least have heard of me) in the real world as well (unless you’re a first or second year or something silly like that!) ---

Sorry, didn’t occur to me last year. 🙂 Or rather it did, but only as a vague idea which I never gave much serious consideration. I’m afraid I am indeed something silly like that - I’m a second year (a second year mathematician specifically). Why would I probably have heard of you? Cambridge isn’t _that_ small… ---

Er, I was rather, erm, well-known to put it politely. Some would have said notorious. I used to have people come up to me and say “So you’re \*\*\*.” Which was _very, very_ scary. But then I calmed down, and in my third and fourth years I dissappeared into a shell of hard work! Besides, if you look at the cover of your first year CUSU handbook, youll find me. Right there, on the front, with the megaphone… enough!Damn! I think I may have said enough! ---

I was rather active in CUSU - GEEMA rep, loads of access stuff. Lead the march against the rent rises in 1999, said some choice words through a megaphone on aforementioned protest about Sidney’s Bursar - I think it was a guy called Larkin at the time. Made it to the front of 2000’s CUSU handbook (a rather fetching picture (NOT!) of myself in a bright blue and orange CUSU T-Shirt, blue jeans, holding a megaphone. I’m in the current prospectus as well (See [thhis picture](http://www.cam.ac.uk/cambuniv/ugprospectus/welcome/welcome11d.html), I’m the one on the right) as well as on the front of the GEEMA prospectus as well, which, fotunately I can’t find a link for at the moment, thank Og for that! So, yeah, I got around a bit, and was heavily involved in the Union as well for a while, before I saw sense. Hence, why I was fairly well known. ---

Damn coding! Now, enough of this reminiscing. I must get back to extracting a spectrum of a galaxy and editing my observing proposal. Scary thing is, armed with simply what I’ve said in the post above, it’d be fairly easy to find out my real identity! ---

From what I remember, **Alex** : minimal. Sadly. Especially if this turns into a summer event, a la **Dex**.
