Can A LandLord Leave Me Without Power?

Thanks for the tips, guys. Well things are set in motion. The maintenance guy will come out today to check things out. I tested out my light again, and sure enough, the one dead bulb came back to life whenever I turned on the ceiling fan. Then it went out again. Definitely something’s wrong there.

The monitor, iron and tv problems occured on different sockets. One of the first things I tried with the monitor was plugging it directly into a different wall outlet , but that didn’t fix the problem. So my worst fear is they will have to rewire the whole apartment, and I could be days without electricity, but I’m staying optimistic that it is a minor issue.

rewiring is not often needed. most common are the connections of the wires which are cleaned, tightened or switched to other locatiions. also common are the devices like switches, receptacles and breakers which can be replaced. it still would take hours to do.

it is difficult to tell what is exactly happening here. there aren’t enough details yet given to come to a conclusion (difficult or impossible anyway from a distance). some things like some kinds of light dimming are normal when high current devices come on. your monitor problem was cured by buying a new monitor though now seems to still exist. a symptom is a xbox shutdown which is a device that can do that because of its own flaws. tv can shut off through their own flaws and misbehavior in their remote circuits (certain room light situations might trigger). you have a bulb that comes on only when the ceiling fan is on (this can be a common miswired connection).

the trouble with many of your devices can be within the devices itself. your troubles could be caused by a bad electrical system. it could be a combination of both. when you troubleshoot electrical systems and electronics long enough you find all kinds of causes, coincidences, rare events and perfect storm situations.

so its good you have a person on site to look at this. with the right test equipment they can diagnose the problems and fix.

No. Many people have an iron but actually plugging it in?
