# Can a sitting president remain in power while incarcerated?

[Here is another thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/can-the-president-of-the-united-states-be-arrested/834754) from 2019 on the subject. Events since then have shown that removal by impeachment or going 25th Amendment are not guaranteed unless the political party with the votes has a spine.
