I can speculate. It appears to be a cameo and these are very often used on lockets. It may have been given to her by her mother, grandmother, aunt, etc. If it is a locket it probably contains a picture of a loved one. In earlier times it might have held a lock of a loved ones hair. Itโ€™s likely old, perhaps a family heirloom, and worn for sentimetal reasons, as well as asthetics. Cameos are not as common as they once were. ---

I love her. I want to buy her bigger necklaces on longer chains. I want to help her position them in exactly the right place. I want to smooth out the wrinkles in her dress. I want to spray paint her with honey and cinnamon. I want to be young again. I think the necklace she is wearing is an opal cameo but I need to see it up close and personal before I can say for sure.
