Nobody’s life is in danger from a stationary car. Once that car starts moving though… all bets are off.
I would agree with that in some cases, but not in this one.
No Sir, I can’t. They are fallible men and women, capable of errors in judgement, and also prey to greed, just as can be said for you and me. That said, they are highly trained individuals who protect and serve on a daily basis, and I am one who is tired of folks who want it both ways. Let’s not get mean with the bad guys, let’s not use excessive force, say some. I submit that they are the same folks who will holler bloody murder if their property, persons, or family become crime victims. Then they will rant that the police didn’t do enough to defuse the situation.
The overall point of my first post and those which have followed is that I’d prefer to have law enforcement take a hard line when it comes to protecting the citizenry. It’s a highly charged subject, as is evident from the others posting to this thread. I maintain my original feeling, which is that I support officers in the performance of their duties, and will not play Monday Morning Quarterback in criticising their decisions. I wasn’t in their shoes, didn’t feel their adrenaline, and didn’t have my safety off and hammer cocked. The shoot/don’t shoot decision is one that most of us (who are weapon owners) will never have to make, thankfully. Those officers who have made the decision to employ deadly force often question themselves for the rest of their lives in a manner that you cannot fathom.
So-I’ll back the Gentlemen and Ladies in uniform, and give my support to them even when they make a mistake. ^5 to Badge and the others who protect and serve, making this country safe enough for people to sit at home and criticize them on their computers that weren’t stolen while they were at work.
