I will grant him that at least he is sticking with the “I wasn’t there” defense, rather than his allies’ terrible “it wasn’t that bad” defense. ---

WTF is he crying about, when saying he kept calendars? Sounds like a whiny, entitled, rich kid. Not the type of person I’d gravitate towards, and plenty of them already on the Court. ---

God, if he’s this unhinged in his opening statement, how is he going to respond to actual hostile questioning? I’m actually starting to wonder if he’s leading up to withdrawing his nomination at the end of this speech. Can he actually be delusional enough to think this is helping his cause? Seems like he’s just adding “temperament” to the list of excuses that swing Senators might use to vote against him without having to pass judgment on Dr. Ford’s testimony. ---

I suspect that at least part of the emotional tear-up is genuine. Because it really sucks when you’ve practically clinched the Supreme Court and then your past catches up with you. Plus, why not crank it up a bit, it can’t hurt! ETA: I really think this guy is revealing himself as being somewhat unhinged, certainly not stable. His emotional act, genuine or not, is starting to get really disturbing. ---
